Yes, that's a fair point. There are indeed proportionately fewer than I would have thought.
By the way, you're right that I have dark hair myself, but I'm not under the impression that I am suave, so that's not the basis for my thinking! Unfortunately. |

This is incredible to see so many posts on hair color!
Have we reached the "does the rug match the curtains" stage yet?
(I'm partial to brunette women, just for the record)
I don't really care what color Bond is. But I'm trying to care, really, it just seems in the world of super-spys that hair color (and even accent) would be something you could change at will in order to get what you want. But one cool thing about Bond is that he likes to use his own name, even though any bad guy with an internet connection would be able to figure out who Bond was

So you're talking about people in general being suave rather than a blond character being suave?
Yes, but it still has an effect with characters, which is why Bond should be dark.
Only if you know of the actor in real life or you refuse to have your belief suspended.
When I go see a film with Woody Allen in it, I'm not thinking of his unfortunate past, and when I see a Tom Cruise film, I'm not thinking how dumb I think Scientology is. I go to the cinema to be immersed in a whole new world unrelated to my life outside the cinema. |

I was just thinking that there are certainly vastly more blonde actresses...

I've been thinking about this a lot - would dark be better, or blond (for Slavic countries)? I do think that there would be many more countries where blond would stand out like a sore thumb. It wouldn't take Brosnan much to pass (other than close up) as an Arab. Craig will have to wear a lot of headgear!

Have you seen this film? He makes a big point about openly giving that name. |

Oh, sorry- I wasn't trying to suggest that. It was just your presumption that blonds have it easy attention-wise that struck me as a bit "grass is greener/ blonder". Perhaps blond women have this advantage with men, but I expect that's most because guys (well, the straight ones, at least) are far shallower when it comes to looks |

I'm half and half. I would certainly boycott Michael Jackson, and perhaps Allen and Polanski, for example.
I still think the suave thing is true, but even more important is that I feel books should always be followed other than where there is a good reason (too much material/budget/details not suitable for the screen etc.). Otherwise, isn't it about time it was Jane Bond? |

I think that was the intended plan with Jinx from DAD |

Don't worry, I didn't think you meant that. I also do prefer having dark hair to blond, though, so I don't think it is a jealousy thing. But blond hair is definitely more noticeable, all other things being equal. |

Yes, and Vesper called him "reckless." Just seems amusing to me. But he succeeds in spite of everyone in the world knowing who he is, so that's ok. |

Okay, you've got me on this one. Yes, Simon Baker is very much suave. I haven't seen The Devil Wears Prada but I watched him in a TV series "The Guardian" and while he was mostly moody and dark (despite his blonde hair) he gave off the suave attitude. What surprised me even more was to find out that he was Australian and hid his accent beautifully in that TV series.
And that made me think of another blonde suave guy - Benjamin McKenzie from "The O.C.".
By the way, you said you didn't know who Peter Lawford was. He was one of the famous "Rat Pack" back in the 50s and 60s and you just HAD to be suave to be a member of the "Rat Pack". But don't let me sway you - if you ever get to see the movie Exodus his portrayal of one very anti-Semitic Maj. Caldwell was the epidome of suave.

It didn't stop Roger Moore.
Anyway, they floated to idea to Craig and he refused. I think he made the right choice. He looks good in a tuxedo. For James Bond, that's all that matters. |

I've seen him blond when he was younger, but surely he's dark as Bond/in general?

More fool him if that's true. It would have made it easier for him to get non-Bond roles later. And he doesn't look particularly good in a dinner jacket. |

Whether you could really call Roger Moore blond is debateable...but if he's brown-haired, it's a very light brown.
Daniel Craig's hair is a little lighter than Moore's was, but barely. But the way people talk about him, you'd think he looked like Grant in FRWL. |

I've checked Roger Moore as Bond and he's safely in the brown-haired category (lighter than I remembered, though). Daniel Craig is proper blond, no two ways about it. |
