If the subject line space were longer, or my ability to compose a succinct sentence better, I would have posed this topic as "Why are some reviews much more quickly responded to than others?" I have had several reviews in storage for a long time. Conversely, a few Sundays ago, I saw a good procedural called the "Cutter," wrote up a review, and had it accepted the next day. Is it as simple as a MERP being familiar with a film, but having to research other ones? This is in no way meant to be a complaint. I can imagine the flood of films that rush in frequently has the MERPs swimming for their lives.

I know obscure titles are ofther longer in the queue than big hits or clear puns on the title probably because MERPs and Benj can't quickly approve a review if they don't know its accurate. This is just a guess, but if you look at what gets through quickly and what doesn't I bet it matches somewhat/ |

I'd like to understand how the review process is operated. Are the reviews farmed out to MERPs chronologically, and to many different ones, thus meaning that our reviews aren't actually approved or rejected chronologically? I have some good reviews waiting (I know they are good) but just about the only reviews being picked up at the moment are new films added or reviews that are rejected. I don't necessarily disagree with the reasons for rejection, but it's pretty demoralising to have 5 times as many reviews waiting as have been accepted, and to keep logging in to find rejected reviews. Presumably a MERP doesn't go through one person's film list in one go? I agree that some are being processed much quicker than others. I disagree that it's anything to do with obscure titles.

The Merps are rumoured to be human and as such they can't possibly know all movies ever made so some take longer than others. That said magically the MERPs and Benj every once in a while seem to do a massive clean out of the backlog, so don't get disheartened with your growing pending list just keep putting more in there and these wonderful people/cyborgs will tend to them when they can. Remember what we're paying for this site and rest assured eventually all good reviews go to heaven or to your accepted pile or something. |

Yeah, I seem to remember someone saying something like that once, but I've never seen any evidence one way or the other.
Personally I prefer think of them as disembodied spirits, keeping in practice whilst awaiting reincarnation in another editing career...
I bet they look pretty much like Casper.

Not meaning to gripe - certainly is a fun site for free - not much free fun nowadays - unless you make your own of course!
If I've still got anyone's attention, what is the toggle button next to the film review strip? It took me ages to try clicking it as I wasn't sure what would happen - but it just turned blue!

It is used to flag a film. Use it at your will, some use it to flag films that they would like to watch, others use it to flag films they want to review....etc
You will find a button in your MY FWFR page that says Flagged Films, click that and it will show you all the films you flagged....easy. |

A couple of times films I've attempted to add have had other reviews approved before mine, really obscure stuff so I tend to think the chances of someone else just happening to attempt to add the same film at the same time are just about zero. Any thoughts?

I have had a review (that was up for the first time) left pending while a very similar newer review was approved. They were too similar for any MERP to have judged one acceptable and one not. I cannot fathom how this happened. |

I still have pending my review "A bout, a boy." for The Champ (1979), which was written on 13 November, three days earlier than Yukon wrote "A bout. A boy." independently for the same film. Yukon's review was approved in early December and now has 23 votes! I posted about this in mid December and nothing has happened.
Amusingly both are accidental "dupes" for Noncentz's similar view for an earlier version of the film.

So that's pretty much the same thing happening twice, except that in my case I e-mailed Benj as soon as it had happened to alert him to it so that mine would not be rejected - nevertheless, it was. I had to resubmit it about twenty times before I won through. |

Yeah, I've had a film review rejected a couple of times for a new film and then another fwfrer got a review in first. My reviews weren't acceptable (I'm not disputing that) but I did wonder about how the other reviewer got hold of the title that wasn't released internationlly. That's why I asked about how the MERPs are allocated our films reviews. I think it's because the reviews are not dealt with chronologically. Also, I think that because I was trying to add a new title it was probably added and someone else picked it up. The reviewer who got to it has thousands of reviews so I would expect they are looking out for new films all the time. Also - their review was really good and much better than anything I'd managed to put together!!!!

Oh, and just to add that I am fallible and that I've realised the movies I'm trying to add might entered differently to what I expected. I was looking for the Frankenheimer/Lancaster movie The Train, but it's under 'train, The' . So I thought I was adding a new film but I wasn't
