Very cool. I loved it. All my fears were represented -- claustrophobia, creepy killing creatures and women who are much, much better looking than me.

Not according to the Gallery evidence! I'd rather have you down in a troglodyte-infested cave with me any day... |

Troglodyte-infested cave date? Boy, you know how to woo a girl. Where is the Gallery, any way? I'm too much of a computer doofus to be able to post photos any other way and I have a penguin ice photo for Sean.

benj said he was doodling with it and will have it back up soon.
MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD: READ NO FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE DESCENT AND THINK YOU WOULD LIKE TO. SAME GOES FOR SCOTT SMITH'S NOVEL THE RUINS:
I rented this movie on Stephen King's enthusiastic recommendation in Entertainment Weekly. I also read Scott Smith's terrifying novel THE RUINS for the same reason. I don't think Stephen King particularly cares for survivors. [Even though he loves LOST!]

Have you ever read Stephen King's On Writing ?? It's very good. As a writer and a lover of his work, I rather enjoyed it.
I have, but have not started reading, his latest book - Lisey's Story. Looks interesting.

Also, I did very much like the ending of The Descent.
Not the expected. So, good.

DESCENT virgins can still read this one.
My only beef with the picture was the very shocking scene early on. I thought it would pay off somehow at the end, but any attempted payoff was IMHO weak and flaccid.
And Scotland substituted very well for North Carolina... |

I am a writer too and really respect King's willingness to try different things. ON WRITING was wonderful. I have LISEY'S STORY but haven't read it yet. I will probably do so on the plane to Utah this weekend for our annual Sundance trip.
Do try THE RUINS. It is absolutely relentless; there are many similarities to THE DESCENT. |

I won't dissent, Descent was decent!
I caught another well reviewed horror this weekend - Slither. A bit more campy, but well done.

I loved Descent! (saw it alone at the midnite movies, and I admit to having jumped a time or two in my seat)
Also, loved Slither, mostly because I love Mal (Nathan Fillion) and there were some wonderful lines to help offset some of the gore-fest
quote: Bill Pardy: Thank you for saving my ass back there.
Kylie Strutemyer: You're welcome.
Bill Pardy: Of course, when I tell that story, it's gonna be the other way around.

Never let it be said that i'd pass up an opportunity to shamelessly promote my more-than-4-word reviews...
Slither was great fun (7/10) but The Descent was a rippin' yarn (8/10) |
