Hear Ye! Hear Ye! I deem a new FYC rule that from here on in must be followed.
You are not allowed to put a spoiler review in the FYC without labelling it. There are some reviews where this doesn't matter too much -- older movies that most people have seen. I don't think too many people would be shocked to know that Rosebud was a sled.
BUT IF THE MOVIE IS STILL IN THE THEATRES, AND YOU'RE REVIEW IS A SPOILER, TELL ME THAT BEFORE I CHECK OUT YOUR REVIEWS.
I don't mean to pick on one person in particular, but for the sake making sure no one else does this, I'm saying this publically, instead of PMing.
Conan, a few FYCs ago your review gave away the ending of The Departed. (Fortunately, I had already seen the film). Now, in the latest FYC, you gave away the ending of Blood Diamond (I film I wanted to see but haven't).
There's a very simple solution. In the FYC, simply say "Warning, my (insert movie name) review is a spoiler. If you choose not to view my FYC, please vote for five other reviews of mine." It's such a simple thing to do. And I think every voter should be required to give the reviewer five votes if the pass on looking at his 5 reviews. The reviewer should be rewarded for putting up a spoiler label, not penalized by getting fewer votes.
If you are on this site, it is because you are a movie fan. And there is nothing a true movie fan hates more than having the ending of a film they want to see ruined. (Except for watching Adam Sandler movies, that's really annoying...)
I hope this message doesn't come across as too harsh Conan. I'm NOT super upset about this, but a warning just seems like common sense to me. |

I definately think spoilers should be labeled, but I disagree that the 5 vote penalty should be required since I don't ordinarily vote for all 5 of the FYC's on every FYC. |

Agreed, and agreed. I think that it might be a nice idea (but not manditory) for those posting spoiler reviews to give us a link to five alternative reviews which we can vote on or not.

I did not know this, but also have no idea to what it refers, so please do not explain.
When a film came out should make no difference. People should label all spoilers - it only takes five seconds to write "There is a spoiler for X." |

I agree with this too - I'll always find five to vote on, but I don't want to be told I must do so. |

I don't agree with this. Firstly, what is a spoiler? And how does it affect films that have been out forever?
Secondly, the statute of limitations on anything considered a spoiler should be until it leaves the theatres. You can always be careful with the reviews of a film you haven't seen, however old it might be; but I think it is too much to ask for people to label spoilers, whatever they might be, for perennial classics. If you haven't seen them already, you really should have.

People have tried to suggest before that any old plot point is a spoiler - not true. Only things which really are unexpected when watching the film are spoilers - most films cannot have spoilers.

Rubbish. It takes so little time to indicate a spoiler that this cannot be considered inconvenient for anybody.
Um, and since when did we call them 'theatres' in this country? |

I think calling cinemas Movie theatres is a sweet throwback, they are referred to as theatres here as well but usually by the older generation. |
