I like them being called picturehouses or picture palaces on that basis. |

I'm old school. I still like calling them "talkies."
I agreee with Salopian. Even if you have a review that gives away a film from 1949 that most people know, it only takes a few seconds to say "My review is a spoiler for..." |

I still say Flicks sometimes Airbolt, but then I'm still a kid at heart. Speaking of which, why am I sat here? I should be down at my local house of moving images. |

There's a very simple solution. In the FYC, simply say "Warning, my (insert movie name) review is a spoiler. If you choose not to view my FYC, please vote for five other reviews of mine." It's such a simple thing to do. And I think every voter should be required to give the reviewer five votes if the pass on looking at his 5 reviews. The reviewer should be rewarded for putting up a spoiler label, not penalized by getting fewer votes.
Brilliant! I will have to include a spoiler in every FYCTH because then, instead of POSSIBLY getting five votes from each FYCTHer I will be GUARANTEED five votes from each FYCTHer! |

Once I was standing in a movie queue behind a person who had just seen Lars Von Trier's DOGVILLE. She said it was well worth the three hours, "but it took an amazing turn near the end when [FAMOUS ACTOR*] [ACTION*]ed [RECEIVERS OF FAMOUS ACTOR'S ACTION*]."
* = Edited by me. Anyone who has seen DOGVILLE can easily fill in the blanks.
At once, she was horrified. Wished she could take those words back. Realized many, if not most, of us in this film festival queue would eventually encounter this flick, and now she had spoiled a true left-field ending for anyone within earshot.
What did the cineastes do? They took it all in stride, but our heroine was now forced to endure various spoilers as queue members tried to top each other, through successive gales of laughter in which she eventually joined: SPOILER ALERT [I have removed proper names that were uttered that day to try and spare some of you, but imagine all the details added to these sentences]
"It was [his] SLED!"
"[He] thought he was his own mother: he was fucking NUTS!"
"[He] was on Earth all the time!"
"[He] was a ghost and he didn't know it!"
"So was [THAT SAME FAMOUS ACTOR]!"
Etc etc etc. IMHO, the proper and cheerful way for a cinephile to say, "Watch it with the spoilers."

OK, my thoughts.
Spoiler Warnings I think this is a good idea. It's just basic courtesy, and I think it would apply on most (if not all) movie-based websites. It's not hard to write something like "Spoiler for Titanic" in one's opening post. I've added a line to the FYCTH title at the bottom of this post, whoever starts the next round should use this, please.
Compulsory Votes I don't like the idea of any kind of compulsory voting. IMO there's enough voting going on here; by that I mean that there are plenty of completely boring reviews on the site with plenty of votes, simply because people see votes as currency. Votes are supposed to encourage clever review writing, and elevate good reviews above ordinary reviews so they are at the top of personal and movie pages. There is no way am I going to vote for a review unless it's voteworthy, irrespective of how nicely someone asks for the vote.
So how about we leave this as totally optional; if a voter doesn't visit someone's FYC because of a spoiler warning, then they are free to reward that person for being considerate with the warning by visiting their page and casting a few votes if they want.
FOUR YOUR CONSIDERATION - TREASURE HUNT
I say:
Put any five reviews you like in your F.Y.C. list. The only rule is to not use the ones from the previous round - you must change them every round. Post here to declare that you've done it. Sooner is better than later. Provide a spoiler warning in your post when appropriate. You must read the F.Y.C.s of all participants. The next round starts on Monday or Thursday at 6:00am FWFR time, whichever comes next.
And Yukon, you're welcome to fix the spelling of "protocol" any time you want. |

Now, in the latest FYC, you [Conan] gave away the ending of Blood Diamond .
Did he? I could not remember seeing a spoiler for this film (which I would have remembered since I also haven't seen it and thus would have been annoyed), so I checked through the last round and couldn't see a post from him - am I missing something? |
