Anybody else noticed how many third installments we have coming out this year?

Spider-man 3
Shrek the 3rd
The Bourne Ultimatum
Rush Hour 3
Ocean's 13
Resident Evil: Extinction
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

(And there's probably more I've missed)

Has there ever been so many third installments in one year? Or sequels even? Is this further evidence (if ever it were needed) of the sad decline of original ideas in Hollywood?

What does anyone else reckon?

Hollywood may totally suck when it comes to regurgitating old ideas (although rather sequels than remakes I think) but then the audience must suck as well for paying to see said sequels and encouraging the studios to greenlight more and more of them. The ones that baffle me are the sequels to films that were rubbish to start with. Does Resident Evil really need another installment? In my case I'm only interested in Spidey, possibly Bourne, maybe Shrek.

I am looking forward to the Spider-Man threequel, if only for some Venom action. The Bourne Ultimatum might also turn out to be interesting: I remember loving the book as a kid, but then again I used to love pretty much every book I read as a kid. How things change.

And because I am a mindless drone, I will most probably end up seeing them all. Apart from Rush Hour 3, probably. I seem to remember having plans to watch paint dry that day.

I haven't seen Shrek 2 so I don't know if I'll go see Shrek 3. I'll certainly go to see Pirates, but other than that, the rest don't interest me at all.

Hollywood believes that you can't get too much of a good thing. Only problem is, their opinions of what a good thing are, aren't always right.

Well, didn't Rocky 20 (or whatever it was) "surprise" everyone with how well it did?

Nothing surprises me anymore, "Epic Movie" won the box office last weekend, in spite of every. single. review. calling it garbage. That means we'll get to Epic Movie 3, at least, before they quit.

You know, they should re-release that Back to the Future scene where McFly is wandering around the city and a huge 3D ad for "Jaws 20" comes out and tries to chomp him, so that it's "Rocky 20" and a big 3D fist takes a swing at him.

(If they can change the guns in E.T. to walkie-talkies, they can do this, I'm sure.)

I like all of those series, so I'll see them all most likely. My criteria for liking a film have diminished notably recently. I like films that aren't too challenging alot of the time, although I can still use a nice complex thriller every now and again. To illustrate my point, Beerfest rocked.
