Voted through Yukon. Off to get my home computer back from the shop. If all is well, I'll be able to visit over the weekend, again! Hurrah!

Viciously Valiant!

Ali, unless I miss my guess, you've put us all in film taglines, yes? If so, could you list the movie titles you're parodying?

In with all newbies!
http://www.fwfr.com/user.asp?id=3426

p.s. Spoiler for Carnival of Souls, but a subtle one.

Two hints:
Easy Virtue is about a woman who is rejected by her second husband because of her sexual history (i.e., she's had sex before. Shocker!)

Carnival of Souls involves a death in a drag race.

Indeed, sir. The theme of this week's list is taglines. They're all random apart from the ones for Randall and george kaplan respectively.

George has a North by Northwest avatar, and Randall cited Halloween as one of his essential films in another thread. I really wanted to use that tagline anyway, so he made my choice easier.

I'll post the full list on Monday.

No, I am Turkish, and currently in Istanbul. I've spent a major part of my life in the UK, mind (uni, masters, formative career years).

Ah, that does explain it. Thanks.

Yes, it does explain why Ali's two hours ahead of FWFR, just like I am here in Jerusalem.

Istanbul is a wonderful place, by the way. I especially liked the cisterns!

(Voted for everyone so far.)

That reminds me... Once upon a time (about 35 years ago) I went to school to be told that vandals had broken a cistern in the boys' toilets. A wag in my class quipped that the miscreant in question had probably misheard a rallying cry from anarchist groups, calling on people to smash the system.

Yes, Britain is expected to grind to a halt today because a few centimetres of snow have been forecast.

I trust this lot require no explanation.

And, my, aren't we all punctual this morning/afternoon/evening?

Sludge has pointed out to me that Sacha Baron Cohen's surname is Baron Cohen, so I shouldn't really use Cohen on its own in my Borat review. Fair point. Sludge's suggestion is that I change it to 'Make benefit Sacha's wallet'. (I suppose the alternative is to have a de Niro type debate about whether it's permissible to use Baron-Cohen as one word...)

Would anyone who has voted on the review in the past couple of days want their votes back if I went with Sacha?

(Actually I suspect I'll have to lose the - currently 8 - votes for now and beg for their return. So don't be surprised if you see a revised version next week, along with begging letter.)

PS Britain did grind to a halt, though in some cases the forecast alone was responsible. Schools have been closed for two days throughout Birmingham because of a couple of inches of snow and a few patches of ice. How the Canadians and Swiss must chortle.

Edit(9/2/07): Now I'm really pissed off. It normally takes me ten minutes to get from the centre of Telford to the outskirts. Tonight it took two hours. Yes, there was some snow. Yes, it was still snowing. But two hours? I can only imagine that the hold-ups were caused by the sheer bloody incompetence of drivers who panic at the sight of the white stuff and crawl at walking pace, wheels spinning on every incline. Bah! A Swedish woman who works with my wife was gobsmacked by the impact 2-3 inches of snow have here.

It's not the first time I've been stunned by the incompetence of Telford drivers. Many of them have no idea how to negotiate a roundabout, and think the right-hand lane is for people who've got lost and need to turn round. Bah again!

Damn, I didn't known this. I changed a review of mine to Cohen because Benj wouldn't allow S.B.C. I feel that Baron-Cohen is definitely no good. I'm happy for you to keep my vote if you change it to Sacha. I'll have to do the same.
