Do you have a couple reviews that you think haven't gotten the attention they deserve? Which are they?

There are no real rules for what defines "underrated." If it's got zero votes and you think it should have gotten at least 5, that's fine. If it has 50 votes and you think it deserved 100, you can list that. It's up to you what you consider "underrated." But let's keep it to just a handful of reviews that you think got lost in the noise and didn't get the recognition they should have. I can think of a couple of my own, but I'd rather see someone else's first.

I realize there are other threads for promoting your own reviews, but they all have rules. So this one is a little different. Listing a few of your own reviews here does not obligate you to go and vote for anybody else's...although everyone is always encouraged to do so.

A personal favorite of my own is for High Plains Drifter, which reads "Eastwood avenges murder, rapes."

SPOILER

See, the joke is that if you haven't seen the movie, you think I'm saying that Eastwood avenges a series of crimes which include a murder and several instances of rape. What I'm actually trying to explain is that Eastwood avenges a murder, and along the way he also rapes a woman. Get it? Get it?

Good idea Downtown.

Ill jump in with a few. For all of these I had high hopes at submission time but they met with little success (one vote each).

Wild Man Blues

Woody, soon-Li: odd Kopple.

The Wind

Gish endures numerous blows.

The Rookie

Quaids dream of fields.

Moana

Samoa Flaherty.

Ju Dou

Husbands nephew bangs Gong.

I love reviews that misplace just one letter to get the point across. Like this one.

They always cut out that scene on broadcast television, so a lot of people who've seen the movie still might not get it. But that's a good one.

So am I. A definite case of a review that would have a lot more votes if both movies were better known.

Often I can see that a review is probably a clever one but I haven't seen the film so really can't know for sure. Or I just don't remember it well enough. Other times I can vote for a review of a film I haven't seen because it's a play on the title and I know a little of the content etc. I haven't been on the site long enough to say whether some of my reviews that I like are underrated, although there are two I am surprised haven't been hit at least with one vote yet.

This is still the review I'm most proud of. The moment I came up with it I thought it would be far and away my biggest vote earner but it's still got some way to go.

Here's a couple I liked and was surprised they didn't earn more votes when they went throught the FYC:

Miracle
"Herb Brooks: Miracle worker."
http://www.fwfr.com/display.asp?sort=2&id=6036&Mode=&Rows=1&Start=1&do=
I think this review got few votes in the FYC because of the large number of English and Aussies on the site. It's one of the greatest upsets in the history of North American sports, the U.S. Olympic hockey team winning the gold medal in 1980. Herb Brooks was the coach, the man who helped create the 'miracle' Miracle worker is a referance to the Helen Keller film.

Just My Luck (2006)
Lohan, audience both unlucky:

I don't think this review got a lot of votes because only a few people saw this bad movie. Lindsay Lohan plays a very lucky woman but when she kisses an unlucky man, their fates magically switch and bad luck follows her around.

Flash Dance
"Stripper: Just Add Water"
http://www.fwfr.com/display.asp?sort=2&id=2205&Mode=&Rows=1&Start=1&do=
Refers to the famous scene where Jennifer Beals gets doused with water and starts dancing like a maniac.

This is a personal favorite.

If you don't get it, D.D.S.=dentist and SS=Nazi organization.

And how about this one?

A dystopic film made with rotoscoping.

An early work requiring a certain amount of film knowlede.

Haynes made this in the style of Douglas Sirk, one of whose films was Imitation of Life.

And a recent effort I thought would get more support in the FYCTH.

I think this one's self-explanatory.

All these have been FYCTHed, some suffered probably due to obscurity of the movies, for some others perhaps my cleverness is evident only to myself (and a few others) .

My Neighbour Totoro - the Totoro is a giant furrball. And there is a catbus (a bus that's a giant hollow cat). And the furrball doesn't get a taxi, he gets the bus. So no, the cat doesn't get a furrball, the furrball gets a cat.

The Snow Walker - Barry Pepper eats raw meat in the Arctic. There are a few others there that could do with extra votes too.

Porco Rosso - I thought my second one there was better than the first. A pig flies a plane and is involved in WW1-esque dogfights. Pig. Dog. Geddit? Rovark and Animagess could do with more votes too.

Madagascar -
demarche:-
2. a statement, protest, or the like presented to public officials by private citizens, interest groups, etc.
3. a procedure or step; move; maneuver.

Fucking ml - comes out (with respect to sexuality) while exiting the toilet.

I'll check all others in this thread.

I have two reviews that have gone almost unnoticed despite being in my FYC list. It's possible that the reference in my review of Revenge of the Sith, "Padme victim of irony," just isn't as obvious as I thought, or more likely it just got lost in the 500 other reviews of that film. But I think it's better than my other reviews of the same film that have more votes.

I respect the fact that some people find the vulgar quality of my review of Oedipus Rex distasteful, but I'm surprised more people don't find it as amusing as I did when I wrote it or still do. It cracks me up! And it's such an obvious gag...I'm a little disappointed (but thankful) nobody else thought of it first!

There are probably more, but right now on my FYC I'm a bit disappointed that only one person got my other review for The Troupe, since the movie is about how the troupe get along (punning group dynamics).

Maybe the former, because I have to admit I just don't get it. Sorry.
