i bought my daughter 'Happy Feet' for Easter. Thats all she could talk about. She loved watching the penguins on the ads. She also loves movies with music. I sat down and watched it with her. It was cute and adorable and had great music. Then we started to get to the end. Does this movie have a hidden agenda? Is this an Al Gore movie in disguise??? Any kid who watches this wont get the ending at all. They will just see a big group of penguins dancing. What I see?????? Adult scolding. No wonder this movie won an Oscar. 'Cars' was way better than happy feet. But if Al Gore's movie won an Oscar..then of course this movie had to.

Cars was awful.

And as far as environmental messages go, I really don't see how a call for regulating overfishing in the Antarctic in order to prevent upsetting the ecological balance is all that objectionable.

I didn't watch it because I was told that the basic message was something like "People are evil, they are going to kill us" but watered down.

I didn't watch it because they watered down the message!

It didn't seem hidden to me.

Um, Al Gore did not invent environmentalism.

Maybe not a three-year-old, but any child of at least seven should grasp it quite easily.

I enjoyed it, but Happy Feet is certainly much better.

Apart from the fact that the message you quote is essentially true, I think you were told wrong. The film's ending is very positive and optimistic.

If by "hidden" you mean "hit you over the head with a sledgehammer" then yes. The agenda was about as hidden as the sun at high noon!

I thought Cars was only okay - nothing special. The inanimate object world they made bothered me. Sure, I know that lots of animated films make inanimate objects come alive, but at least they base that on magic and fantasy. I couldn't believe that these cars built this whole world. I liked Happy Feet much better because of the fun in the movie. Yes, it was hard to ignore their agenda, but at least we could enjoy the rest of it, and despite the message (which is a good one, at least), I felt good after I saw the film.

I find it very disturbing that any time the message "take care of the Earth" comes up, people immediately starting think "Al Gore and the Democrats."

I'm really not sure when wanting to destroy the world God gave us became a "conservative value," but it doesn't make much sense to me. Thank goodness The Governator doesn't see it that way since his state can make such a big impact, but it's really sad the rest of his Party thinks that just because a lot of Democrats want to protect the environment, that the GOP is obligated to take the opposite position. I'll bet there are a lot of conservatives and moderates out there that actually care about protecting the planet, why go to so much effort to turn them away? What exactly is the political advantage of viewing every environmentalist as a "tree hugging liberal?"

Haven't seen Cars, but I thought Happy Feet was ok.
The messages were pretty up front, humans destroying fish stocks, polluting the environment and generally not being a good thing for the rest of life on Earth. And difference within society is a good thing and should be accepted as such. Loadsa problems with certain plot elements and that bloody musical score, but pretty damn good animation and superb charactorisations. Overall, a good way to spend a wet afternoon.

I don't mind teaching my children about environmentalism but I don't think that loading down a children's movie with it is the way to go about it. I want to teach him my way. Surely it could have been possible to make the movie a lighthearted flick and then added a special feature documentary or something.

As for Cars, I didn't really like it. I'm not sure why.

If your going to make an enviromentally sound movie. Put it in an adult movie. WHy ram this through kids heads??? Kids are care free. Why spew this information and scare kids???

If Cartoon movies is the new way to help the Earth, then I can't wait for 'Camel Toes' The movie. Dancing camels start to glow in the dark cause some humans in the desert are playing with nuclear energy.

Why on Earth not???? The movie as presented was hardly scary (at least in terms of its environmental message), and I just don't understand the desire to shelter children from intellectually stimulating ideas. My dad was introducing me to politics when I was eight or nine, and I'm grateful for it, even though I no longer agree with a great deal of his political views.

But are camel toes a suitable subject for a children's movie?
(I didn't learn about the term until I joined fwfr - what an education I've been receiving.)
