Misterbadidea - do you mean you've never heard marijuana described as 'weed' or you've never hear a nerdy, brainy, bookworm guy described as a weed?
Bife - I did resubmit it with an explanation before starting this thread.
Baftababe - how much do you pay for votes? I'm sure we can cut a deal for a bulk order.

Weed is a British term - it doesn't so much mean nerd / geek ...
... it means someone who is weak, skinny or scrawny. Someone who isn't good at fighting. However, the stereotypical brainy, bookworm types tend to be weeds, and Brian in The Breakfast Club is definitely a weed.
I would describe the character Peter Parker as a weed (before he got bitten by a radioactive spider of course).
