I'd just like to add my name to the list of those totally stumped by it. Sorry Titanpa.

I think this review is 100% OK, and that bife is right in that it would most likely have been accepted second time on resubmission with a 100-character explanation. Isn't that what that feature is for?

I have no idea why a single review needed it's own thread. I'm just glad that others (presumably) use the 100-character explanation box for their resubmissions instead of the fourum. Imagine 50 new threads per day being started for discussions on simple plot aspects of movies for declined reviews.

I guess we are all sorry! Shiv, I didn't take your post the wrong way, and there was nothing wrong with the way it was worded. I apologise if my response indicated otherwise.

I just didn't understand why Titanpa had not resubbed his review with an explanation, instead of appealing to the fourum.

As he says, he isn't a newbie and he knows full well that 'Dont understand" means the MERP doesnt understand the review, not that they are rejecting the review for being wrong.

By the way, 'Dont understand' never means that the MERP doesnt get the joke/pun - it means they dont get the link between the review and the movie. It matters not one jot to the review's approval/decline whether 'Memories taken at Liberty' has a valid second meaning of 'taken at will' or not - the review is approvable because memories are literally taken at the Statue of Liberty, ergo 'Memories taken at Liberty'. I never explain a pun in my 100 character explanation, I have always assumed that there is no point doing so, reviews don't get approved because the MERP gets the pun

And Titanpa - you do not succeed in 'not bashing someone' just by starting a sentance with 'I dont want to bash you, but ...'. In fact any sentance that starts that way is almost certain to do so. Any idea how a sentance begining 'I dont mean to nag, but ...' might end? Or maybe that's just in my house

But I also know you mean well enough Titanpa, and you are a valuable part of our little 'community' - so I am sorry to you too if I am unduly negative in your direction

Uhm ... the only thing that puzzles me is that the review now appears to have been Smitheed

Personally I think the memories were taken by Liberty since you didn't have to be at the statue to be affected.

Lets start a different discussion, bloody hell Smithee has 1000+ reviews, and is 57th in the most review rankings!

That must be hard to swallow for some and I might be joining the ranks of people who find it concerning.

What is really worrying I have voted for a massive 87 of those, but have never knowingly voted for a Smithee review!

Weird.

I voted for a heap of Smithee reviews when I first discovered fwfr. At that time I thought it was a real fwiffer who was using the name because it's such a well-known movie 'joke'

Yes, I stepped in it once.

Yes, I know who Alan Smithee is in real life (if that makes any sense!); but who is Alan Smithee the fwiffer??? What do you mean when you say you voted for a load of his reviews thinking it was a "real fwiffer"... sorry, I'm still confused....
