When a reviewer no longer wants a review they've written, they can 'disown' and send them to Smithee. So there is no reviewer named Smithee, we are all sort of Smithee. |

I still think that my "Thatcher: Tory leader, chick" suggests otherwise, but I agree that this is what is supposed to be the case.

Yep, this is my practice too, and I think the only valid one. |

We are most certainly not all sort of Smithee. |

What I find concerning is that numerous real reviewers are not allowed in the ranking by average votes, while Smithee is allowed in all three rankings. I would not mind if we did not have those rankings, but since we do they should be meaningful.

I have voted for loads too, but none of them post-Smitheeing. Some people even Smithee reviews because they have too many votes. |

THANK YOU. Now I understand. Why would I want to disown a review, though? Isn't that like selling your child into prostitution, or, if you're Amish, shunning your own?

It is of course Smitheed. Just to show you that I Didnt care about the review. I just wanted to grasp the concept and to see if other could grasp the concept. I also disowned it because it now has negativeness towards it. It has bad Karma. Not many people will vote for it now bacause it was the center of the arguement. Or maybe people will vote for it. Just to show you that the review wasnt the thing I was fighting for...It was the concept and the idea of it. |

Some disown a review as they're somewhat embarrassed about it. Perhaps they wrote one containing a dirty joke that's funny, but they no longer want to be associated with it as others might think they're a FILTHY PERVERT! Or they might disown one because they only want to have one review per movie; they think of a better review for a movie so disown the original. So, in general, if someone has a reveiw that they don't want and they think doesn't benefit the site, they delete it. If they don't want it but think it still ought to be on the site then they can disown it. |

I'm with you on this, once a review is accepted by the MERPS it's there until it either becomes generic due to sequels or if somebody Nastys it.
I'd never let it become a Smithee.
But by the same token it didn't bother me that Smithee was in the rankings as I knew it didn't count. So i just ignore all the reviews uner the Smithee name. |
