Four newbies, one oldbie.
FYI: Harrison Bergeron is a made-for-cable film based on a Vonnegut story, in which the population is kept at average IQ levels through electronic "jamming" of superior brainwaves, and breeding lower IQ folks with higher IQers. Above-average thinkers can get their intellectual jollies by sneaking off to illegal "clubs" where politics can be discussed, chess can be played, etc. |

Thanks, Bafta. It's one of those reviews when you're sure someone has thought of it beforehand and then delighted to see someone has not.

Three newbies, two oldies"
Those dang explanations:
- The 500 Hats of Bartholemew Cubbins, based on the Dr Seuss book, was one of several films added by Josh the Cat in his 1943 Oscar nominees accolade. (PS: Great work, Josh!) In reviewing that list, I found another film's title that perfectly summarized the plot of this film.
- For Finding Nemo it helps to know that 'chum' is a mixture of fish guts and other inedibles that fishermen use to attract sharks.
- In my Signs review (SPOILER!!!), I tried to draw attention to how the aliens in this film share a solubility defect with another well-known antagonist in film history. Oh, what a world!

Livie, really enjoyed your Fallen Champ and 28 Weeks Later reviews - brilliant and hilarious!
An exceedingly underrated review this round is Salopian's for Planet of the Apes. Percy Shelley's poem and the ending of that film resonate in more ways than one. Both Sal's review and Shelley's sonnet are worth another look if you have the chance.

Many thanks!! Both of those reviews are the product of rewriting formerly declined reviews. They fared better in rewrite!! |

Thanks. I'm more than happy with a few votes for that review, though. I don't think it's clever (especially as the parallel is probably intended by the film-makers), but I just wanted to note it as it struck me so strongly when I watched the film. (Incidentally, Benj's high-scoring review for that film jokingly gives a spoiler, in a tone as if everyone already knows it. I saw it for the first time a couple of years ago and had had it half-spoiled by this site - I cannot remember the details now, but it was not a clear-cut spoiler like Benj's. I'd find it funny if this were one of those films that everyone knows the spoiler for, but I think this is a case of people embroiled in film assuming that that is so when it is not.) |

down to four spoiler in Chinatown but everyone know this already
Well, whatever it is, I didn't, so it's just as well you did give a spoiler warning.
Mr. Salopian, sir, you're advised to stay away from movie clip shows such as AFI's 100 this or that; you're apparently innocent of some famous spoilers [USUAL SUSPECTS, CHINATOWN] that are well known even to folks who haven't seen the movies in question. I'm sure you stay away from them anyhow, but this is just a friendly nudge.

I do usually turn over when 'big' films that I haven't seen come along in these, especially if I have heard that there is something spoilable in them. I had no idea there was such a thing in Chinatown, though. I am not doubting that a lot of people will know these spoilers, but I am also sure that the film-types here overestimate the proportion and that there is a significant minority in each case which remains ignorant.
The films where actually virtually everyone knows the twist are just ones like The Empire Strikes Back and The Sixth Sense. |

Very strange choice by the studio. I assume that the artwork is new (since it is for a remastered edition and it would have been really bizarre to give the spoiler in 1968). It is so odd that they wish to take away from viewers' enjoyment. |
