I know this isn't exactly against the rules of FWFR, but I'd consider it a personal favor if people would refrain from writing reviews for the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows for a reasonable amount of time until everyone who has an interest in reading the book has done so. I'm getting mine in the mail tomorrow and I don't want any spoilers to jump at me on the New Reviews page. I know my request would be probably be impossible to enforce without setting a dangerous precedent, but I feel like there will be more than one fwfr'er with my sensibilities on this specific film.
Thanks, GHcool |

No worries, you'll get no spoilers from me. My review for that film that I submitted on Saturday got declined anyway, for some reason. It was:-
"Hogwarts destroyed in global nuclear war, everyone dies."
or something. Damned MERPs reckoned it was more than four words!
Actually I was curious to see if it came back with "not 4 words", or "innaccurate", or perhaps "generic"....? |

I just checked the page and there are no startling revelations in any of the published reviews. Perhaps the MERPS can be persuaded not to publish any spoiler reviews until September? |

I don't think we should start making special cases like this, although I think it is fine to make a personal request to F.W.F.R.ers as GHc. has done. |

That's really strange because I had a similiar experience with the following review:
"End of wizarding powers launches Potter's adult film career".

Yeah, it would be difficult to enforce and start a dangerous precedent, but I think September is long enough away that everybody who wants to read the book will have a chance to. |

I completely agree with Cool, and have submitted only one non-spoiling review. |

I have read the book already. I just tried submitting a non-spoiler review, and it was declined immediately as "Similar to another review," which there is no other review approved that is similar to the one that I submitted. Evidently, someone heard your plea, GHC. |

Well, my review that was just accepted certainly doesn't have any spoilers.
(Everyone already knows that Deathly Hallows is the last in the series, right?)

I've had two approved & three in the hopper. Can't believe any of them would be spoilerish, since without knowing the story, they'll make little sense. One involves a line of dialogue that, if kept in the film, will certainly bring a loud and sustained cheer from the audience of 3 years hence. If you've read the book, I'll bet you can guess the line. |

As I have just started reading the book this week would it not be prudent (in keeping with the philosophy of this thread) ROCKGOLF not to even allude to what hapens in the book, I find that even 'since without knowing the story' a reader may accidentally see the review and then with the clues in the book be able to work out what is coming up in the story.
Now this is purely Academic as I have not visited the FWFR page of Deathly Hallows yet.

Can I recommend then to all that we boycott voting for ANY Deathly Hallows reviews for a period of, say, two weeks? That way they won't accidently appear in the Top Reviews page.
There's only one vote on any of the reviews so far, and that, I admit, was mine. |

I am divided on this issue. On the one hand, I think it's fair for a reviewer to post on the boards, and ask to not be spoiled about a popular book, the film version of which is already confirmed and for which there is already a page on the site.
On the other hand, it is not without its problems. First of all, how can one determine a time frame? Some people are fast readers, others less so, and a consensus would be difficult to come by. Further, what about people who might be fans of the film series, and not of the books? Can they, in turn, ask reviewers to not supply spoiler reviews until the film comes out? Finally, it sets a dangerous precedent that can apply to all future films.
Considering my general opinion that it is tough fricking shit for someone to come across a spoiler, which they otherwise would avoid, on the site's reviews section, this particular query presents a personal dilemma, as well.
Thoughts? Feeelings?

Thank you. It is the 7th book. |
