Here's what's great: A fight scene on the Eiffel Tower that will leave you breathless. Some really funny end-credit out-takes.
Here's what's not great: Everything else.
Oh, yeah - and whoever it was who's collecting bang-in-the-balls shots ... Chris Rock Tucker gets his rocks knocked by a karate kid ... and then in the reaction shot he's rubbing his knee!! Guess that's what keeps it kid-friendly rating.

My wife and I were going to a Drive-In on Fri night. We would have to sit through Underdog to see Rush Hour 3. Now I dont know if I want to sit through either. |

I think there's two things certain in life: death and BB not liking a high concept summer flick Why do you keep putting yourself through this BB?
I'll admit I don't expect it to be anything more than quickly forgotten entertainment (much like the previous two), but it'll hopefully satiate my Chan-fix |

Hey -- I liked Bourne!!!
Chan's got a few good moments, but trust me ... the best stuff is in the end titles

Hey... don't go calling Bourne high concept It's about the only summer flick we've had this year that's actually got a brain- the very opposite of high concept. |

I don't understand the words coming out of the screenwriters laptop!
Okay I didn't see it, but I have too few babysitting dollars to spare on this stuff.
And BB - did you mean Chris Tucker or is Chris Rock in this movie? |

Oh, crap, Tucker, of course! -- I was too fixated on my feeble pun to engage my brain
As for definitions of high-concept ... it used to define something that could be pitched in a single sentence. It was shorthand for the kind of project pitched for greenlighting.
You gotta gimme the money for this. It's high-concept. It's Dracula meets Klute!
Then it started to be applied to genre films with a twist: You gotta gimme the go-ahead for this. It's high concept. It's Cowboys, yeah? But ... and this is the bit ... it's Cowboys on the Moon!!
So, now, benj -- now, you're telling me high-concept means it comes out in summer and has no brain. I'm gutted, benj.

Well, I actually said "high concept summer flick", meaning I appreciate high concept films can come out at any time of year. Granted, I was harsh to say high concept films can't have brains but it seems an increasingly rare thing.
By the way, I'd dearly love to hear you describe The Bourne Ultimatum in the pitch style of either of your definitions of high concept |

Ri-i-ight. Bit of a cheat to use the sequel clause By the same definition we'd have to call The Godfather Part 2 high concept.

I just saw this, and couldn't decide if I liked the Eiffel scene or not.
There were eight other people in the theater, and they seemed to like it, so take that for what it's worth. Yes, it's been out a week, and with ticket sales like that, it probably won't be playing here beyond next week.
Hopefully they'll get back to their roots for Rush Hour 4 |
