Noah Baumbach's followup to THE SQUID AND THE WHALE left us wanting, even though it attracted the likes of Nicole Kidman and Jack Black [no doubt Scott Rudin's possession of the script helped a bit] and Jennifer Jason Leigh [no doubt her nuptial relationship to the director helped a bit]. More dysfunctional family humor and pain -- two sisters this time -- and there are plenty of chances to laugh. But there's just not enough there there, and a few moments' reflection reveals many gaping holes. Baumbach and several of the stars, including Kidman and Leigh, tried to explain after tonight's NYFF screening and failed.

The main thing I remember now is that I found the ending neither interesting or plausible.
