Almost embarrassed to point to this potboiler, but ventriloquist's dummies have been creepy to me ever since I saw DEAD OF NIGHT as a kid, and this one lays it on thick, along with a good dollop of Japanese-horror-type shock makeup.

I even had the twist ending nailed about halfway through, but the careful Poe-like trowel-twists in the final seconds were both affective and effective.

Junk, but fun junk.

I was highly disappointed with this film. It came across as being a quirky and original twist the writer had one day and then tried to spin out into a full length film, hoping the mere sight of dummies would be scary. Had it been a Tales of the Unexpected or Twilight Zone I think it would have been great but as it was it didn't float my boat I'm afraid.

BTW, did you ever get around to seeing this pairing's previous, far superior effort 'Saw'?

Nope, but I'm ashamed I haven't after I promised you I would. I just Netflicked it and will report later.

It's the dummies. They creep me out, benj.

I wasn't as disappointed as Benj, but also felt it was not an overall success. I know dolls scare lots of people, but they don't really do so for me.

Netflix is delivering it tomorrow, and I will watch and report within the next few days.

It's here...will try to watch it this weekend, if it doesn't interfere with what Ms. Randall wants to watch. I will then take the discussion to the SAW thread...there is one, isn't there? Serrated at least?

Yep a lot of people saw Saw! I'd be interested to know what you think.

The thread is probably buried pretty far back, though.

They're on Saw, what, VI now?

EM :)

Last thing I heard, Saw V and VI are being filmed back to back. I'm not too optimistic but if nothing else it's testament to how great the first film was that so many have been churned out off the back of it.

I felt the same way about HALLOWEEN...and, to some extent, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. OK, I'll see SAW...
