Saw this in the end because of Jason Lee. It's actually a lot better than I expected. It's obviously not what one would call a good film, but it's no worse than many other basic children's films, whereas I had originally thought it would be quite dreadful.
Definitely not the worst kid's movie ever made, especially compared with such atrocities as Garfield, Scooby-Doo and Underdog. What I like most about it is its surprisingly accurate and not-that-watered-down take on the kiddie pop industry. I was honestly surprised to see a movie like Alvin and the Chipmunks be aware of and comment on the fact that teen pop stars like Aaron Carter or Hannah Montana are worked to the point of exhaustion, forced to lip-synch so they can squeeze more performances out of them, plied with stimulants to keep them going on their insane schedules, and kept in little cages when they misbehave.
