Ahhhh, man... The Doobie Brothers broke up!!!

I rarely provide explanations, 'cuz I'm too lazy to make the effort... Apparently, there are those who appreciate my efforts.

Spoilers in:

'House of Sand and Fog'
'Zodiac'

...Posted those spoilers 2 viewers too late, my bad... if it's one area I suffer most detrimentally, it's 'spoilers'

New reviews ready to Roll Out!

FYI Hamlet 2 is not an actual sequel. A high school drama teacher looks to motivate his students and save his department by writing a sequel to Shakespeare's "Hamlet".

You mean there was no sequel to Hamlet?

Randall - You are right, of course. The best, and unique, thing about the FWFR forums is that there are no rules, and everyone is allowed to post to their heart's desire.

Still, I can't help but cringe when I see some of these hints (most of which I, too, skip). I think the suggestions made by Salopian and Whippersnapper would act as fine guidelines.

But, yeah, in general, laissez faire et laissez passer et laissez esquissez.

I often provide hints, but other times, I don't. I wouldn't withhold a vote because someone doesn't like hints, or says so. For some obscure films, I've found that hints help more than hinder, and at other times, they do provide a bit of witty relief. It's a matter of taste and no one is the better or worse for hating them, disliking them, liking them, loving them, using or not using them!!

Oh, and V&V.

Following that deluge of approvals earlier this month, I rationed out my new reviews over the past two weeks. Here are the final five all-new reviews on my list.

Oh, I have lots in my pending pile. Just no unselected in my new pile. So enjoy, cause next week, like American television I'm going all re-runs and reality programming.

Possible necessary background:
- La Bamba is the biograph of pop singer Richie Valens who had only two hits, the movie's title and a "Donna". He was killed in the same plane crash as Buddy Holly.
- Keeping with the musical theme, Mamma Mia is a soon-to-be released film starring Meryl Streep with all the songs by Benny Ulvaeus & Bjorn Andersson of ABBA. You can be sure that, as we speak, hundreds of film critic are dying to print the review "Do I love this film? I do! I do! I do! I do! I do!" or "Meryl meets her Waterloo".

Some of you may not want hints. Some of you may hate hints. Some of you may never use hints. But there are some out there who are in desperate need of hints. I'm not naming any names (Tori). An honest to god joke. Dont kick me in the nuts over it.

Wheater it be an obscure movie, a saying from your own country another foreigner never heard of, a connection that we cannot see as plain as day, or it be a joke from a total different movie used in another movie's review. But there are times when a hint is needed. Ok, sure there are those stupid hints out there. But there is a fine line for stupidity. What one person sees as stupid, another person may not. Sure there are those of you out there who knows Hamlet never had a sequel. But, I bet you there is at least one person out there who maybe thought there was.

V&V to here.

One reason I give obvious hints is that a movie may not have been released in another part of the world. St. Trinian's is the No. 4 movie in Britain this week and I have never heard of it. I remember reading a lot of reviews for Hot Fuzz and Pan's Labyrinth -- none of them made any sense to me because the films opened in Europe first.
Many films in North America open months later in Europe. That's why I'll provide a real obvious clues such as "I Am Legend is about the last man on Earth." That's obvious to someone in North America but not in Britain where the movie opened a few weeks later.

I agree with the wisdom of "if you don't like hints, just don't read them."

I don't dislike hints in general - just pointless ones. I always read them carefully, and in some cases the writers therefore lose votes.

Voted for everyone!

As for hints, I started putting some in mostly when I thought the films were obscure or the joke had to do with actor/s that most people wouldn't know were in the film, or names of characters from the film. Lately I've tried to leave all explinations off the original post and wait a day or two to see if they all get at least one vote. If I see that some don't, I'll put an explination in just for the one/s that are still at zero. But I also decided that if a review goes through FYC and doesn't get at least one vote, even after I've given a hint - then I'll delete it. I think that works best for me.
