So, Benj... now that you've got some new MERPs, are you thinking of upping the cap or getting rid of it? My pending pile is emptying out faster than I can fill it these days!

(Oh, and thanks again!)

No please don't remove the cap, it works. The new merps are doing great but the pending pile cxannot be empty yet and I have to say that if the new merps slow down then the pending pile will rebuilt.

Reinstigating the cap will be a pain keeping it in place will be keeping the status quo.

Keep the cap a while longer I say

Know people can start having a go at me so help yourselves....

Sorry to break up this black and white discussion, but...

As the current figure of 20 submissions a week is a variable, then when conditions allow, why not vary it?

There's no technical problem in changing the number, so, if and when the situation allows, it could be increased a little, and, if the amount pending grows again, it could be put back.

I'd suggest that the first move could be to increase it to maybe 25 a week and see how that goes.

I think before we start seriously considering anything we need to get the backlog out of the thousands and, despite some folks getting reviews processed quicker, there's still a fair way to go

The cap should be changed pro rata to a monthly basis. It never made any sense to make it weekly.

Well, if the backlog is still that large, I'll shut up.

(Someone take this can opener out of my hands - there's some worms still on the shelf I really shouldn't be tempted to open.)

I have not submitted a review for like 3 months now. I decided to wait until all my previous submissions go back to zero and was haoping the backlog would dwindle down. But now I am guessing everyone has been taking advantage of the 20 subs a week since we still have a backlog to talk about. But since ther is no end in sight I might as well start submitting reviews. You should see all the papers i have saved with thoughts and scribbles on. Let alone the notebook with pages of reviews. Guess I should get started.

I'm pretty sure that I submit more under the cap than I did without it. I can only assume that this must be the same for many people: otherwise, the backlog would surely have been easy to shift (since several people have stated that they previously submitted much larger numbers per week).

In the last six weeks you have, but prior to that the figures show you were submitting about the same (or less) than before the cap.

Yes, that sounds right now that I think about it. I think the problem is that once one gets into the habit of using the cap (as I did when I decided to achieve Salopian's Cine File 2008), it kinda sticks afterwards. So even though I have now submitted reviews for the backlog and only see around five new films a week, the feeling of needing to avoid wasting the cap is still there. Maybe it'll wear off.

The only point I want to make is about removing the cap is for newbies.

When I first found this site, I was hooked and was submitting 10 to 15 reviews a day. I spent a lot of free time here. I think newbie's now don't get a chance to get hooked.

Benj, you should act more like a crack dealer who gives free hits to all his first-time customers because he knows they'll become addicted.
I suggest remove the cap for all people until they reach 200 reviews.

I agree with the idea- it's something I've been considering for a while now, although 200 reviews might be a bit over-generous. More than the getting hooked aspect though, I think removing the limit for newbies gives them a lot more room for finding their feet and figuring out what sort of reviews pass muster around here.

I agree with this too, and also think that their reviews should be processed first. I am sure that we must have lost some good reviewers.

I certainly think it would be a good idea. We wouldn't want to lose any newbies like Larry - who is proving to be very clever and good at this.

In other words Larry persisted and his intelligence shone through despite adversity?
