I like the idea. It took me a few months to get hooked.

I have now used up my allowance for this week. Is it fair that one's quota gets used up by having to resubmit reviews because the MERPs don't know how to use a dictionary/reject older reviews as too similar/cannot understand perfectly ordinary phrases/can name one other film which the review (less well) fits?

When I first found this site, I was hooked and was submitting 10 to 15 reviews a day. I spent a lot of free time here. I think newbie's now don't get a chance to get hooked.

Benj, you should act more like a crack dealer who gives free hits to all his first-time customers because he knows they'll become addicted.
I suggest remove the cap for all people until they reach 200 reviews.

I agree with the idea- it's something I've been considering for a while now, although 200 reviews might be a bit over-generous. More than the getting hooked aspect though, I think removing the limit for newbies gives them a lot more room for finding their feet and figuring out what sort of reviews pass muster around here.

Hi guys

As a newbie myself (first review in May), I totally agree with this. Now that I'm completely hooked (it took me a few weeks as well), I really want to progress up the ranks but it's gonna take me ages with only 20 reviews a week!

I think having either no cap or a higher cap for newbies would give us the freedom to both get hooked as Yukon said, and find our feet as you said benj. I'd say if you did have a newbie cap, it should be 50.

I submitted my 20 on Monday so now I'm waiting impatiently for next week haha.

Prompted by Matt's enthusiasm, I've just upped the weekly limit to 50 for newbies.

Wow awesome! Thanks benj!

So up to how many reviews are people classed as newbies?

No probs For now, I've assumed less than 100 approved reviews as newbie but this could be upped if neccessary.

...uh, is it still capped at 20 for the rest of us? If so...(quiet sobbing).

As the most active, most recent ex-newbie, I can't tell you how frustrating this new rule is to me. Where was it when I needed it?

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes, Larry. Sorry about your particular sitch, but this is one evolving site: you should have been here when there was no cap, but only one editor! The bitching was still everpresent, but the tones and colors were somewhat different.

Yeah, people used to complain again and again about the basis for certain accolades, even though they didn't have to pursue them if they didn't want to.
