In another one I've just had, the MERP rejected the film as (s)he could think of ONE other film to which it could apply. (It wasn't worded as though there would be loads and that one was just an example, and indeed it's very unlikely that there could be many others, if any at all.) Have they read the 'new' generic rules?

In another one, they asked why I was highlighting a certain name. I was actually highlighting a different name (are the initial letters of the versions they see capitalised even if we have submitted them lower case?), but the review should be valid even without this emphasis, as I don't know what other film it could apply to.

Finally, another one said "I know you are toying with terseness recently, and I applaud the effort, but sometimes I think it's too terse." This got under my skin a bit, because I have always favoured concision in reviews, not just recently, and terse has really quite negative overtones. I'd rather just have had the rest of the comment, which was asking for the review to be made more specific.

On the other hand, I do appreciate the dedication to detail in general, and I have just had my first valid rejection with examples of other films to which the review could apply. The next closest case I've had has now been approved.

A couple more entertaining ones.

After giving an invalid rejection reason, one refers to a "tortured pun" (no more so than half the site) and then adds "You can do better." I really think they should attempt to stay neutral.

Another one just says "No"! Very helpful.

However, one for Mamma Mia! was a very fair rejection. I had assumed it featured a certain song, but it apparently doesn't.

Hardly. I just really think that the MERPs (i) need some standardising from Benj as to what kind of thing is valid and (ii) shouldn't make comments like "I know you've been doing such-and-such lately", "You can do better" and "No".
