Miley Cyrus in 'Let the Right One In' remake
->?<- I'm getting so sick of the purist bullshit that I'm getting ready to champion the remake ("re-adaptation"). Reminds me of when Michael Keaton got the Batman role and all of the fanboys went apeshit.
I'm thinking about sequels. Let the Right One In, Too? Three In, One's Right? Right Foureign? |

There's purist wankers, but then there's Miley Cyrus. The purist wankers have a very strong case. |

Well at least they changed the name and aren't pretending it's the same movie. |

As if I could influence your credibility. You're so credible I'm nearly convinced it's a good idea. (nearly... ) |

Yeah, that was obvious. But the new name on IMDb (Let Me In) is far enough from the original name that it'll prevent viewer confusion, so it doesn't annoy me much. I feel the urge to kill when I hear people saying things like "I saw The Wicker Man, it was awesome!" and it transpires they've seen the crappy remake of a classic. When the remakers of a good movie stop pretending it's the same movie and give it a new name, then I'll let them live. |

(How many good old films have been RUINED by remakes? I swear, I should make an accolade of them all, but it would be more unattainable than the SNL one.)

I agree with this too, but the public have no choice over the name a studio puts on a movie. Whereas the public create the demand for remakes by flocking to the cinema to see their favourite actors speaking in a recognisable language with the right accents, having refused to go see the vastly superior original movie because it stars actors they're unfamiliar with speaking a language they don't understand and they don't like subtitles.
The public create the demand for remakes, and I don't blame the studios for filling that demand. That's simply a market-based civilisation at work. |
