Sure, but what's unrefined about him?

I'd agree with Baftababe that he's quite crude in his methods, wouldn't you?

Hey folks, it's been awhile! I've been super busy lately. I just started a new job and I'm also a volunteer publicity director for my home town's upcoming literary festival. I haven't had much time to fwiff (is that a word?) lately but here is a fresh batch.

Great Cooking one.

Not really. He is rough in some of his methods, but I don't think that makes him unrefined.

Given he scrabbles around on the floor with a cop and rips his throat out with a pair of handcuffs I wouldn't call him refined either!

Voted hence.

Sal, at the risk of being rude could i just point out the following...

crude (krd)
adj. cruder, crudest
1. Being in an unrefined or natural state; raw.
2. Lacking tact or taste; blunt or offensive: a crude, mannerless oaf; a crude remark.
3. Characterized by uncultured simplicity; lacking in sophistication or subtlety: had only a crude notion of how a computer works.
4. Not carefully or skillfully made; rough: a quick, crude sketch.
5. Undisguised or unadorned; plain: must face the crude truth.
6. Statistics In an unanalyzed form; not adjusted to allow for related circumstances or data.
7. Archaic Unripe or immature.

Yes, he performs some actions that don't require refinement, but that does not make the character unrefined. I'm not suggesting that he's especially refined, but he's not especially unrefined either, so it's not notable. He does things in a rough way because he's a psychopath or similar, not because he's unable to be delicate. It would be like submitting "Non-pilot becomes king" for King Ralph. It's true that he isn't a pilot, but nothing about the situation leads one to expect him to be more like a pilot, so it's not a relevant thing to say.

ok, not having seen King Ralph (I'm presuming that there is no reference to piloting in it) i am only grasping at the gist of your argument there.

Nonetheless, in your previous post you referred to Chugar as Rough, which (sportingly illustrated) also means unrefined, leading to the pun on unrefined sugar.

Go on!! Find it in your semantics to give her a vote.
