| Spider-Man is going to get a reboot. Noone can agree on the script. So Sony is pulling the Actors and Director and getting an all new cast. Spider-Man 4 will reboot the whole series. So consider me not following the franchise anymore. Why mess with anything that broke records and brought them lots of money? Tobey was a great Spider-Man! I can see why Hulk got a reboot....but why Spider-Man???? |

I think it's nuts. I think the whole 'reboot' thing is getting out of hand.
Like you said, they made a ton of money already, now they are essentially starting over, and in a more crowded field no less. |

if they're gonna do that, i would recommend waiting at least 5 years to give people a chance to forget about the previous cast and soften inevitable comparisons, and the bad part 3.
remember, it was about 8 years between "Batman & Robin" & "Batman Begins."
( as if Sony cares what i think)

Assuming they take no more than 5 mins at the top of the film to recap the origin of Spider-Man, a job they did rather nicely in Incredible Hulk, and then get on with telling a new story, then fine.
But if the whole movie is a retelling of the origin, frankly, why bother? |

I guess Sony see Spider-Man as a commodity above and not at all reliant on the director and star. Presumably, they think we'll all rush out to see it whoever they choose to foist upon us and with whatever shoddy script they rush through for some mad release date.
Shame. I heard Raimi really wanted to make amends for SM3 with the 4th one and the studio had agreed to give him more creative reign as on the 2nd one again. Looks like that was all a big crock- God forbid studio execs should let the director have a say in the film he makes...
On the plus side, at least Michael Bay and McG are both too tied up in their own franchises to drag this one down too  |

I actually revisited SM3 a short while back to confirm it was the horror show I remembered and, actually, it wasn't. It was pretty good. Bit too long (although I wasn't in the cinema this time) and some slightly convoluted plot lines, but much more satisfying than I recalled my first viewing to be.
It certainly wasn't bad enough to be buried and started again, not within such a short timeframe. I and II were epic. But I suppose there's a whole generation of fourteen-year-olds who haven't been targetted by the marketing monster who need to start paying their dues.
I'd like to say I won't go and see it, but I don't think I'd be able to hold myself to that.

I really loved Spider-Man 3, but I understand that most hated it. Considering that (and considering that Raimi reportedly was the victim of executive meddling during that film), this move makes perfect sense for him. Why should he take another hit to his reputation if he's not satisfied with the script?
Still, Asshole Spider-Man, not to mention Peter Parker and Harry Osborne being complete dicks to each other, never fails to amuse me. |

We're certainly not average, but my kids loved Spider Man 3. They loved the bad guys, they laughed at the musical bits, ate it up.
My oldest is now 12, so maybe they are a bit younger than the market they hope to tap, which I'm thinking is the 17 - 25 or so age bracket. The kids with more money than sense. |

| I can't see the logic of "rebooting" a franchise that is still current - it's nonsense, unless they are planning to wait a long enough time for the collective idea of the Maguire/Riami films to die down. I'm not a huge fan of the series by any means, but this just sounds stupid. |

I think Sony's doing their own spin on the Brand New Day storyline... not only has everyone in the fictional world of Spider-Man magically forgotten who's under the mask but so has the audience.  |
