Wish I could take credit for that.

(Wish I could also get some of that action!)

Some beautiful person hit my reviews as well.

I'm such a loser that I actually just counted the total number of votes they gave me... 231!

That's pushed my average votes per review up to 9, which I've been working towards for a while. (Ever since I reached 8.)

Thank you, mystery voter. I love you and want to have your babies.

Quite a lot of people have had a lot of votes it seems. I'm now in the twenties (just) in the average-votes ranking, something that has never happened before. As an example (that I can remember simply because he is obviously notable) Benj is now ahead of me for the first time ever (and by a long way).

They hit me with over 300 votes - my biggest single haul in five years here.

I don't often get hit by these random angel voters but it was well worth the wait for this one.

Well, I can't help but hope for such a visit too, but I'll take it on the chin if I don't.

It must be a new user, as no established F.W.F.R.er in their right mind could have previously left 300 of BiggerBoat's reviews unvoted. (Oh, wait, it might well not have been a new user then. )

If all the votes flowing around require any additions/amendments here, please just let me know.

Well, my angel got in touch. It seems that my celestial description was apt because apparently the reason I was granted so many votes was because I don't go looking for them; this 'guardian' sent me a PM congratulating me on having steered clear of vote-swapping 'competitions' and vote begging. It went on to say that the statistics on this site have been skewed by evil and pernicious practices, but that there were some good and honest people here and that in time the greatest, rather than the most promoted reviews, would find their place at the right hand of Benj.

I'd never heard of the user but I got the impression that they'd been watching over the site for some time, judging by the knowledge they had of the common practices here. I was asked not to reveal their name but to pass on the message that there is a change coming - a change for good - that will alter the way we view FWFR and, possibly, the world. I was also asked to pass on a warning: those who give away their votes for personal gain should beware, because sacrifices will be made in the future and the dishonest will be revealed...

Could the Second Coming begin here, on our humble site? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I genuinely cannot tell whether some of that is serious or whether all is for fun...

If the former, then I think to be fair you have promoted your reviews enough that all regular F.W.F.R.ers have read all of them, which is after all the maximum you can usefully do. It's just that you are very selective about what you submit/keep so you do not have to promote them often for them all to have been highlighted (which is totally fair enough).

I'm right up there for liking getting votes (not the very keenest, admittedly), but I am also definitely the person who has most promoted votes for others. Most of my vote-based rounds allow and encourage posting other people's reviews as well as/instead of one's own, I've posted threads on actively getting one's own top reviews overtaken (which certain people were 'too busy' to enter although they did have time to post so in the thread) and I've done certain games whereby there aren't really relevant sets of my reviews for people to visit in return (such as this one) so were totally selfless, although in that example it did somewhat piss me off that some people didn't even say thank you. Plus, let's face it, I could easily get loads more votes by not objecting to so much of the nonsense that some people spout here.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I'll be offended if on such a basis this person excludes me from such a visit.

I made up the bit about the Second Coming. I don't think that will happen. Not here anyway.

There were other things mentioned but I thought I'd summarise.

LOL, I of course didn't think that was serious but couldn't tell whether you seriously meant that you had been contacted. Did they really say things like "good and honest"?

If they did say that about the greatest reviews, then it must be nice for them to be living in such a fantasy world. The top 100 reviews will hardly ever change. I showed them to a friend the other day: he thought some were good but that others were nothing special, and I agree. I've voted for most of them but if they were written now the majority would stay below about 20 votes and no one would think that surprising.

Anyway, I'm sorry that it's touched a nerve.

Yes I have (but not in an X Files way), and yes they did. They wrote in a style that was like a combination of the Bible and Nabokov. Beautiful to read.

Let's see if that change happens, eh?

Not to worry Choccy. The same angel whispered beautifully in my ear this week that I had been duly rewarded for my willingness to share the fruits of my labours, and that self-promotion and vote sharing were seen as my eagerness to bestow votes upon my fellow active members of the Fourum in kind. This had won me a special place at the side of the creator (O Benj, o wholly Benj). It is a sin to hide one's light under a bushell - create your fwfrs and display them proudly at every opportunity to further spread the good word to all corners of our community: a veritable feast of global fourwordedness.

Like all heavenly visitations: it's all in the interpretation.
