I wouldn't be in favour of this, as the unreviewed films aren't that big a problem. I feel very aware of them, but that's because I'm very familiar with the site. This is the same for most regular Fourumites, but we are a very small number. Most users will not come across many unreviewed films. (The only ways I can think of are accolades and actors'/writers'/directors' lists, which are slightly specialised things to bother going to, and searches, via which most people will just go straight to the film they want without paying attention to any others.)

If it were implemented, it would need to leave intact any films in accolades or with unapproved reviews. Even this would be a bit risky, though, as some people may prefer to write over-quota reviews outside the website rather than have them auto-rejected. It would be annoying if they came to submit them and the films had disappeared, and they had to go and then look for them again.

I've begun with those pesky ones that start with numbers. I'll try to do 10 a day and hope that helps.

How about we make a pact or a promise. Anytime someone adds a new film, they must also review it.

I've got a rather radical idea, if Benj were game.

I was thinking about the fact that people could review these films under different usernames so as not to waste their quota (which I wouldn't be keen on) and/or they could give them to Alan Smithee if they couldn't think of anything they wanted to keep for a film (which I'd be even less keen on).

So, instead...

How about Benj creating a special communal user that anyone can log into and which is only capable of reviewing empty films (or possibly films with reviews neither approved nor pending, although that would cause complications). Obviously, the point would be for it to be unrestricted by a quota. It could be called Equity or United Artists or something!

What do you think?

I think that's a wonderful idea.

Given that it would then be possible to create fewer accolades, how about the people who like chasing them don't whinge about the ones that other people have bothered to make?

Back in the day, when Benj personally imported every film to the site, the only way to get a film added was to attach a review. I've kept this up and only ever add films with an accompanying review. There's no guarantee that the review will be accepted obviously, but generally if it's a film I've added, then mine will be first review.

Anyhoo, the first random page I selected here was a bunch of obscure foreign films, so moving swiftly on, I eventually managed to find a dozen unreviewed films that I'd seen, so fingers crossed some will get through.

I'll keep this up as long as my attention span holds out.

It didn't have to be a real review, though. I routinely submitted "FOR ACCOLADE" or, less often, just indicated that the film should be on the site.

Having to write reviews when adding films seems like the perfect way to increase the number of boring reviews on the site, something which is already not in short supply and which Benj expressed a preference against a few years ago.

So here's a related suggestion. How about Benj amends the system such that films can be added to accolades as part of the process of adding them to the site, and that people have to either submit a review for the film or add it to an accolade? There would issues to consider, such as whether writing an over-quota review would count and whether accolades like Films added by Joe Bloggs would be fair, but it's worth thinking about.

.... and another 20 films off the list.

I can't promise to keep up this rate of reviewing but I'll do what I can.

Oh and thanks to the MERPS for their incredibly quick processing of these reviews.

Any chance we can make this thread a sticky one, it's a handy place to go at the end of the week when I'm trying to fill my quota.

Just keeping the thread live.

I've now reviewed 55 previously unreviewed films (although 4 or 5 are films I just added so I suppose don't really count).

If we're only 400 down overall, there must be a lot of films still being added without a review. Perhaps it is now time to bring in a "Anytime someone adds a new film, they must also review it." rule.

Still, keep up the good work everyone who's helping out
