Another exercise in Philip K. Dickian paranoia, the kind that has inspired so many movies since BLADE RUNNER. The basic premise which Dick returns to time and again is, "How do you know?" This time, Matt Damon gets a look behind the curtain, and remember: just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

It's like this: Damon [a gifted young politician] and Emily Blunt [a modern dancer] meet tres cute, but a secret cabal that runs everything without our knowing it wants to keep them apart for its own reasons. Then they meet cute again, thus threatening to ruin everything. If you think being a Dick fan might let you peg the ending pre-screening, you're wrong, but I won't go into the details.

The supernatural guys, led by MAD MEN's John Slattery and then Terence Stamp, rock a retro look in both environment and attire; it's as if the [quite similar] DARK CITY posse got a wardrobe consultant. Beautiful shots of New York City, especially in one arresting green-screen effect which is repeated several times for your pleasure. The romantic leads look terrific together; you really root for them. It has a very traditional HERE COMES MR. JORDAN / DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY vibe which is refreshing to see. Well worth a rental.
