When I realized that I had only 5 reviews for movies from the year I was born, I decided to submit more 1957 movie reviews so I'll have more fodder for my next birthday FYC. While doing that, I found the movie Payton Place, which I discovered was a movie first and later became the long-running TV soap opera.
This made me think "hey, there could be a good accolade in this". But what other movies insipired TV series? Unfortunately, besides Payton Place, I can only think of M*A*S*H. Since a two movie accolade is a bit on the lame side, perhaps you all know of other movies that became TV series and can help me build a better accolade.
Please keep in mind, I don't mean big screen movies that became TV movies, I mean big screen movies that became TV SERIES.
Thanks in advance.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer The Crow Highlander Stargate In the Heat of the Night La Femme Nikita Weird Science Blade Alien Nation Ferris Bueller's Day Off (with Jennifer Aniston!) Planet of the Apes
Just wondering, would cartoons count as well?

Excellent - I wouldn't have thought of any of these. However, I'm not sure about "The Crow" and "Blade" - can you give me links to the TV series that these spawned?
As for cartoons - well, why not? But they'd have to be full length animation films that became TV series AFTER the movie. Oh... wait... yes, I'm sure there is one... but I can't think of it. Go on, enlighten me!

Yes... of course! Thanks for these two as well!

The Crow: Stairway to Heaven
Blade (I don't think it's started yet, I read about it the other day in MAXIM...)

Okay, I'll take The Crow but not Blade - until its started. I'm sure someone will let me know when it begins so I can add it.
And I just found:
My Big Fat Greek Wedding The Odd Couple Dead Zone Stalag 17 (which became Hogan's Heros)

Um... I think I'll pass on that one, Whip!
And here it is so far - the BIG SCREEN to little screen accolade!
(Whoops! I almost forgot Fame! It's there now.)

Um... no, I don't think so. I'm not taking TV movies made into TV series - just movie theatre released movies that were made into TV series. I don't see where this was first a regular theater movie first. |

Again... I don't think so. But you keep trying - it looks like you've made up a new fun game!

Well that's bizarre. I saw that at the cinema, and definitely never on TV. Same with the sequel "Mission Galactica".
Now I've got a big question mark over IMDb. I.e., precisely what the (TV) means. Perhaps it just relates to the USA. In NZ both "Battlestar Galactica" and it's sequel premiered at the cinema.
Edit: If you check under Runtime, you'll see that the theatrical cut is 125 minutes.

Hm... let me think about that one, but I'm leaning towards no since there isn't anything clear cut one way or another.

Oh yes! But... which one? 1914? In any case, I'll have to add it to the database as none of them seem to be here.
