From my memory of that movie Fry didn't alter his accent at all for his 'Wilde about London' portrayal. So I'm with BB on this one!!

I understand what you mean, but I'm not sure if that's how I see it at the moment. If someone has seen the movie they should be able to get the review.

Some of my reviews which fall into this category are puns on linguistic terms, e.g. "'Bow-wow' linguistic theory", and you might be the only person who would get those. Another category is nationally-specific references - it's not fair if we can make British/Australian ones but bife, ChocolateLady and Ali cannot make Dutch/Israeli/Turkish ones.

True, true. Voted too.

ok think think...

I have it,

Wine Fuelled Road Trip

shall I submit it guys? What do we think? Or...

Sideways Stag Weekend

(I'm gutted I can't have an avatar image! I just made a film poster for Crouching Beer Hidden Dragon! So Funny! One of the characters is staring into a bottle of Tiger beer instead of his telescope!) I might do one for Beerland starring Homer Simpson instead of Mr Farrell. Although the conflict between Duff and Tiger would be extreme!

You're getting there, but if you really want to hit the heights you have to get cleverer still. Take my 'Sideways' review: Walking in Vintner Wonderland. Not only does it give an indication of what actually happens in the film, it is also a play on words of a famous song. That's where you get your votes, by going that next step.

As much as your 'Wine Fuelled Road Trip' fulfils all the criteria, there is nothing to make it stand out above other reviews for that film. There is a feeling that there are too many of these types of reviews being submitted for the site at present, and whilst you have the right to submit anything you want, I personally feel that you get much greater satisfaction from a review that is funny or clever or pithy.

Have a good look around and you'll get the picture quite quickly.

BB

Actually, I'm not sure about that. Drinking on road trips is much, much more likely to centre around beer or spirits, so the review offers a nice contrast. Also, there's the fuel pun.

Cheers well I shall submit it and see. My favourite so far was Rat Damon. Simple but it made me laugh because it reminded me of Team America as well....it is hard for sure. Even harder if you take a specific film rather than cast around for some inspiration like I was doing....I will try the top box office releases so I really challenge myself.

With 'Sideways Stag Weekend' I really wanted to say 'Sideways look at a Stag weekend!' Curse the 4 word rule for its simplicity yet difficulties. Great training for advertising this website. I will pass it on to my bosses...and we should let Art Schools know about it as well. Great tool for students...especially with these Forums to help them.

D'oh only seen Hot Fuzz and that is hard! Went for 'Bad Boys the tribute' which is nul. mmmmm Spaced Pig made me laugh but I don't know why. I guess it just reminded me of spaced. mmmbe good to work something to do with the fact that in Spaced they had fake gun fights and in this they have real ones...There is an interesting battle going on between poets and comedians on the site. Think I will wait to decide my allegiance!

Always bear in mind that the wittiness of a review may get you the votes, but it won't help to get it accepted.

My advice, for what its worth, is to always consider the review in an entirely literal way. OK, I accept that the main meaning of brogue is an Irish accent, but is Wilde's accent important to the film? (Is he even played with an Irish accent?) Does Wilde go back to the mountains? Are there any mountains? If you wrote this review for a film about a gay Irishman who returned to the mountains then it would be accepted, but otherwise it's going into your reject pile.

That's the way it works around here.

No gay Irishmen, but here's a review with an accent.

Often a reason is given, but often not. In the latter case, it is often because the reason for the decision is less definable, or because it is a mixture of multiple reasons.
