Hi

I've just created Get The Picture
all of which films feature cameras, photographers, or something to do with filmmaking. [NB: I never realized how many of these there are -- and I've still got another 18 unaddeds in my pending pile.]

Have I missed any major films -- no more docos or tv ones, tho.

Your pikkie help much appreciated. BTW ... the animated trophy is wery weird

TIA!

The French Lieutenant's Woman? (I'm just guessing; I cannot remember whether one sees the cameras or not.)

Could you post your pending list here so that we don't duplicate those?

The Governess was the first one that comes to mind.

Guess (not seen): The Life and Death of Peter Sellers - but are you including biopics? Almost all those of film stars will be in this category.

A lot of courtroom dramas will technically fit (press outside on the steps).

Or ones about other news stories, such as Everybody's Baby: The Rescue of Jessica McClure (but that's of course a T.V.M. anyway) or Notes on a Scandal.

Is The Notorious Betty Paige in your accolade yet?

What about Ed Wood?

And what about Barton Fink?

Dont forget this one!

And there's a little heard-of 1950s film called "Singin' In The Rain" which might be worth including. I know, easy to forget.

"A Matter Of Life And Death" includes the camera obscura scene.

"The Dam Busters" has cameras shooting the test bomb drops.

"The Big Sleep" has Carmen photographed for blackmail.

"LA Confidential" also has blackmail photography.

"The Conversation"

"Sunset Blvd."

That should be enough for you to be getting along with!

Thanks, one and all! I'd recalled some of these as I was gnawing my tuna salad just now, and have already added Singin in the Rain and Le Mepris.

There are also even more un-addeds ... including one I'm in --how silly is that!

Many thanks to CL for The Governess which I must confess I didn't know before and also Barton Fink, Bettie Page, and the lovely Ed Wood!

Also, thanks to Sal for Sweet Liberty and The Aviator. And, no I'm not including biopics per se ... I should narrow my definition of filmmakers as directors, cinematographers, and possibly producers, but only if the plot actually concerns filmmaking.

I'm not including every film in the universe that has a camera in it - so that rules out those courtroom dramas, Sal ... cameras - and those operating them - are included only if they're a pivotal element of the story. And nowhow am I including films because they include a "news story" -- this is accolade's about taking pictures - stills and movings -- and those who take 'em and make 'em.

I'm undecided about Life and Death of Peter Sellers; I know he took a lot of home movies. What do you reckon, those of you who've seen it -- I remember most that it's about the contrast between him as a succession of characters and him as a human being. We do get to see him on various sets - but it's not really about making movies, is it? Your opinions welcome on this one!

Big thanks, too, to Whippy for The Conversation, LA Confidential and Sunset Boulevard. I meant to include the latter but guess I didn't press my submit key hard enough. [and how many other situations might THAT phrase be applied to ] I'm not [yet] convinced by
A Matter Of Life And Death, The Dam Busters, or The Big Sleep, because I think those involve cameras as incidentals rather than plot pivots. Am I wrong?

Well, better get busy with this lot! And, after this I'm closing the shutter -- shutter, geddit, geddit! -- before this acc gets over-developed.

Thanks again, all!

Blazing Saddles? Or does it have to be more consistently/literally about making a film?

Thanks again Sal for
For Your Consideration, which is going straight in, no questions asked, do not pass go!

But Blazing Saddles? In what way is that quintessentially to do with filmmaking or taking pictures? What am I missing

As for bife's lovely accolade - I've been asked before a long time ago, but was too reluctant at that point . Now that I've gotten to know you all better, I suppose it would be okay but I'd be too embarrassed now to ask And bife's prob'ly fed up with my shilly-shallying . And I think Whipper created an acc of my films - though I admit it's incomplete. But then, it's his choice!

I AM NOW CLOSING THIS ACCOLADE.
