Can anyone think of pairs of movies I should add to this accolade? Keep in mind, the two movies have to be from the same year or consecutive years.

I'd been meaning to start a thread about this. There are the Cottingley Fairy films and the Dangerous Liaisons films. It depends how far you want to go. Miss Potter and Becoming Jane have a lot of similarities.

Are any of Finding Nemo/Shark Tale/The Reef in consecutive years? Madagascar and The Wild.

Fail-Safe and Dr Strangelove.

Not so strange considering the impact of the Cuban Missile crisis.

This one's a little outside the box, but you might want to consider virtually every major animated movie that came out last year, because they were all a result of the exact same phenomenon that your accolade is about: Hollywood executives saying "this other studio is doing such-and-such and it looks like it might be big...we need to copy it."

If you won't go that far, it should include Barnyard, Over the Hedge, Flushed Away, and possibly Open Season, four animated movies about animals behaving like people. I guess Happy Feet should probably belong in there, too. At the very least, Barnyard and Over the Hedge should be there. And don't forget Chicken Little.

Then there's Robots and Cars, two animated movies about pieces of machinery behaving like people.

While the world was flocking to see War of the Worlds, the direct to video HG Wells' The War of the Worlds went completely unnoticed.

If I recall, the period from 1994-1996 featured a number of "hackers" and "the internet will kill you" movies.

Then Hollywood did it all over again with The Hot Chick, followed by Freaky Friday, followed by 13 Going on 30.

Oddly enough, this is closer to being the opposite of the intention of the accolade. I'm more interested in cases where different people did very similar films more or less by accident. Of course, it's hard to tell, and one would be disposed to assume that copycatting is involved, but if I knew a pair did actually involve that, I wouldn't want it for the accolade.

The connection here seems pretty tenuous. I mean, almost every animated film in history that has involved animals also involved them acting like people in some way. At least with Salopian's examples of Finding Nemo/Shark Tale and Madagascar/The Wild the millieus were very similar.

Again, this is too much of a common element of animated films throughout history for me to think of it as a real synchronicity case.

I'm actually pretty divided as to whether or not I should include pairs of movies that are adaptations of the same work (i.e., whether or not such movies are really unrelated). Right now I'm leaning towards not, just to keep the accolade manageable.

This is intriguing. The only ones I remember are The Net and Hackers, which aren't similar enough, IMO. Are there others you know of that I'm forgetting?

And generally, great suggestions, people! Keep 'em coming.

This is a nice idea. It's a shame the pairs of movies can't be displayed side by side in the accolade's list.
