If Hamlet had slept with his mother, I'd vote for it too.

And he didn't even kill his father either, and for those of you living in a remote part of some unexplored rainforest who haven't read/seen hamlet performed, that is not a spoiler.

Both of you are right, and perhaps the review is inaccurate, but there still is a bit of a parallel. In reality, though, I guess the review is inaccurate.

Yeah, imagine not even killing his father. What a wimp!

So in a parallel Fwiffer reality it would be right?

Give him a break he was away in college when it all happened.

Granted he is a wimp for the rest of the story.

Um... as long as the Cybermen don't upgrade that site, I guess so!

Are you sure about that? Hamlet was actually a historical figure - Amleth or Amblothe - and his story was well known in the 16th Century from the histories of Belleforest.

Shakespeare was influenced by an earlier play (he stole all of his plots bar a couple from existing plays or events in history) sometimes called the "Ur-Hamlet" from ten years before he wrote his own version. For that reason I don't think Oedipus came into Shakespeare's mind at all. It's only since Freud that Hamlet has been referred to as having an "Oedipus complex" connecting the two plays in our minds. I'm pretty sure Sophocles wasn't an influence.

Unbelievable. Standards for acceptance--and voting--seem to be in the septic tank.

Have you read the rest of the reviews for Nude Live Shakespeare? This is like - well - Shakespeare in comparison to some (I've just been and sprinkled a few votes on the wittier ones, though).

In regard to Oedipus, does wanting to kill your stepfather and being jealous over your mother count?

Ok Sludge, you got me. WHat does Oedipus have to do with "Live Nude Shakespeare"?

And don't tell me its a complex relationship.

The fact that Shakespeare did not write a play about Oedipus sure didn't prevent 3 people from voting for the review!

Got everyone so far, including the bolt.

Sorry to both BiggerBoat and Sal, but I'd already voted on 4 out of 5 of both your FYC's, so I went to both your pages and hit a few more as compensation.

oedipus inspired king lear, not hamlet.

Huh? Oedipus is about a son killing his father and marrying his mother. Hamlet's father is killed by his brother Claudius and Hamlet is instructed by his father's ghost to get rid of Claudius - which would put Hamlet on the throne next to his mother the Queen - which is pretty close to the Oedipus story. King Lear is about the King and the loyalty of his three daughters. I don't see where that could be inspired from the Oedipus story.

But, hey, whatever! I've finished voting on this round, see you all tomorrow!

Finished voting, best of the round that I hadn't seen before was Mr Stupid's "Godzilla vistis Mecha'. Preys"

Also a couple of great oldies from tortoise, but I'd already given them the thumbs up.

Good to be back.
