I understand that Don Mclean's "Wonderful Baby" is a tribute to Fred Astair and that "Superman's Ghost", a tribute to George Reeves, of the TV Superman fame.

I know people think that's about Warren Beatty, but I'm sure she revealed it was actually about Baby James Taylor. innit?

I read that Beatty attended a performance by Carly Simon and when she sang 'You're So Vain' he seemed clearly to think the song was about him. Aint that vain?

Well, there was this movie I seen one time,
About a man riding 'cross the desert and it starred Gregory Peck.
He was shot down by a hungry kid trying to make a name for himself.
The townspeople wanted to crush that kid down and string him up by the neck.

Well, the marshal, now he beat that kid to a bloody pulp
as the dying gunfighter lay in the sun and gasped for his last breath.
Turn him loose, let him go, let him say he outdrew me fair and square,
I want him to feel what it's like to every moment face his death.

I was sleepin' like a rat when I heard something jerkin':
There stood Rita looking just like Tony Perkins!
She said, "Would you like to take a shower, I'll show you up to the door?"
I said, "No no no, I've been through this movie before!"
I knew I had to split, but I did not know how,
And she said, "Would you like to take that shower now?"

[from memory]

VERY impressive Grasshopper. But how's your short-term memory?

I used to pick guitar way back when, and this one was performed often by me, thus it's in deep memory. [As is most of Bobby's stuff pre-motorpsycho accident.]

What was your question?

Actually, Carly never revealed anything except that the person's name has the letters E, A and R. And while James Taylor has all three letters, she was interviewed in Rolling Stone and said straight out that it wasn't about him. Why would it be? She was in love with and still married to him at the time the song was written and became a hit (and he only took a jet up to Nova Scotia AFTER the song was written). Mick Jagger and Warren Beatty are still two possibilities, but Beatty believes that the song is only about him, while others think it is a composite.

And where do we go from here?
Which is the way that's clear?

Still looking for that blue jean, baby queen.
Prettiest girl I ever seen.
See her shake on the movie screen, Jimmy Dean (James Dean).

Sure he did. But Carly isn't admitting to anything.

By the way, how could we forget the original version of the famous Elton John song "Candle in the Wind" about Norma Jean aka Marilyn Monroe?
