I have to admit, I'm a few weeks too old to give a damn about Transformers. I was just beyond cartoons when it came out, and the whole concept of it made my preteen eyeballs roll. Nothing personal. Just a generational thing. |

Neither my 22 year old son, who never watched it on TV, nor my 17 year old son, who was addicted, are interested in this film.
(That just saved me some money on popcorn, I can tell you!)

I am 31. I am so ready for this movie. My cousins and I (of the same age) will be making a day of this. I loved Transformers. I was a big fan. But alas I couldnt have all the variety's of toys that I wanted (Transformers, G.I. Joe, Voltron, He-Man, MASK, WWF wrestling etc.) SO I actually I had the entire Masters of the Universe toys. Castle Greyskull and all!!!! I am so stupid for selling them all!!! I also had the WWF wrestling rind and all the rubber wrestlers. If Transformers becomes a bit hit at the box office, I wonder what will happen when VOltron comes out. I am also ready for a live action G.I. Joe movie. Sgt Slaughter needs to make an appearance. To make my life complete to make all the movies from cartoons growing up, they need to make MASK and (now I cant remember the name of the cartoon. It was a family of six(?) superheroes.) anyways. I can't wait for Transformers!!! And yes, Go-Bot were a cheap form of Transformers. |

TRANSFORMERS the show never did it for me. I'll watch the movie on DVD (maybe)
When are they going to make a movie of BATTLE OF THE PLANETS (the only decent action cartoon of the early 80s)??? I'd pay anyhting to see that.

My oldest son (32) is so a Transformer fan. He saw it last Tuesday, 6-26. He said there was no way he was taking my, almost, 8-year-old granddaughter. He has the DVD collection that they sit and watch all of the time. He said the violence is so extreme in the film--not blood per se--just a lot of violence, gratuitous or otherwise. He also said the film was fantastic! |

OK, guys. I saw the Transformers movie at the 8:10 PM screening at the Arclight with a couple of buddies and their friends yesterday (the day before its nation-wide release), which was cool because they had the actual prop cars used in the film right outside. The guys I went with are kind of dorky to say the least. The "host" of this little get-together is a professional video game tester, meaning that he plays video games all day long while testing them for bugs. Several of his friends are also video game testers and so I'm guessing that around 60% of the people there were video game testers and another 30% were still in university way past when they should have graduated. But when it comes to dorkiness, who am I to judge?
That being said, Transformers is surprisingly a really, really good movie. Sure, its camp and cheese and the plot doesn't make sense for even one second, but as far as movies like this go, Transformers is made with a certain precision and style missing in either of the Fantastic Four movies. Also, surprisingly, Transformers is quite funny too. I've laughed as harder and as often at the jokes and gags in Transformers as I did in most of the comedies I've seen this year. Again, they're certainly better than the gags in Fantastic Four.
Of course, the visual effects and sound design are the real stars of this movie, and boy do they deliver! The Transformers look like they are really in the environments they appear to be in. The sound design will probably go unmentioned in a lot of reviews and stuff, but they deserve a nod too because they managed to find create a new and interesting aural feel for giant robots built on past archetypes, but still completely original. There's one Transformer that transforms from a briefcase into a biped about 5 feet tall that has this voice, look, and way of moving like a little animal that I found fascinating, funny, and cool at the same time.
So in short, if you buy a ticket to this movie, you will be seeing probably the best Michael Bay film there ever was and perhaps ever will be. If you're looking for more than that, then this isn't the movie for you. |

Actually, a couple of the video game testers I went to see the movie have been testing the video game for the past couple of weeks. I'm not even joking. |

Yes, I should have noted this. Adult guardians beware and take the PG-13 rating seriously! This film is basically 2+ hours of nothing but violence. The violence is stylized and nobody ever "really" gets hurt, but it would probably be "a little too much" for anyone younger than 11 or 12. Also, there is a lot of sexual innuendo between two teenage characters mostly played for laughs ("May I ride you ... er ... I mean give you a ride home?"). There is even one extended reference to masturbation that I thought went too far considering that there will no doubt be children in the audience. |

Saw this on the big screen last week (no idea why Thailand gets films earlier when it has the reputation for piracy it has, mind...) and just kinda' drifted off half-way through. I think I must have overdosed on the explosions and noise and just got so used to it all that by the end it all just kinda' washed over me. (Plus, I'm not sure if it was intentional, but half the audience (me included I'm sorry to say) laughed at the end on the line about keeping low-key as the camera panned over a bunch of huge expensive automobiles bizarrely sat up on a remote hill). I was never a big fan- perhaps that was part of it too
At least Die Hard 4.0 had a decent idea how to pace itself- bit of a breather every once in a while and it never outstayed it's welcome (bit of a damp squib ending however). |

I saw this movie while I was on vacation. I went with my Cousin. He is a little older than I. We were both Transformer fans, but he remembers the cartoon more than I. I am glad that the movie didnt take itself too seriously. There were lots of times that I found myself laughing out loud. There were a few changes to some of the characters though. Megatron was a Huge Gun in the cartoon and BoneCrusher were 4 or 5 Constucticons put together to make a bigger robot. (its also weird that a Robot, from a robot world, would be named Bone Crusher???)
IT was a kick your butt out of the seat kinda movie. I loved it cause I am a fan. I thought it was a great movie. Not the best mind you. There was 80's music but they tried to modernize the Transformers. at one point Prime says "My Bad" after he steps in the garden.
Anyways. Lots of great acting in this moive. Totally believeable if it really didnt have a believable plot. I loved Megan Fox. She is hot!!!
Can't wait for Voltron and ThunderCats to hit the big screen.
SPOILER TO COME -------------------------------- . . . . . . So did anyone stay for the credits? You thought at the end of the movie that all the bad guys were dead. But during the credits, StarScream sputtered off into space. Sequel perhaps????? |

Well, I just saw the film and I enjoyed it heartily. I was a little old for transformers when they came out, but I remember them acutely. My younger brother was more the target group then.
The film is a fantasy piece. It takes the Transformer story pretty much as is and embellishes it with a dash of some pretty good acting. Of course no one's going to get nominated for a best or supporting role! But I thought the actors really put a lot into their parts (with the exception of Turturro, who I felt played his part more for laughs -- though I would not have minded seeing him reprise the grisled character he played in "The Good Shepherd"). I especially liked the kid who played "Sam."
Nothing earth-shaking (except for the vibrations of all those auto-bots getting slammed), but I thought it was good fun. I'd see it again. |

Yeah. That was a little wierd. I wish I'd known about that a little earlier, as my 10-year old daughter did just what you might expect: she piped up loaudly "Daddy, what's masturbating?"
MguyX: "Honey, I think she said masticating, which is basically what cows do when they chew their cud. Maybe he's got a stash of hidden bubble gum that he chews when they're not around."
Daughter: "Oh."

This movie was a fucking travesty. It transformed my brain into mulch, and my nine dollars into a wholly worthless experience. I am amazed that there are not more people on this board destroying this movie. Was everyone here a fan of the Charlie's Angels movies too?
Michael Bay is a colossal fucking asshole. Watch a Michael Bay movie and you'll discover that black people are funny, fat people are funny, nerds are funny, fat black nerds are funny, robots pissing on people is funny, Arabs are funny, rednecks are funny, and so on. Ha ha. It's funny, if you're a colossal asshole. But hey, there's a place in the world for assholes, and I actually liked Bad Boys II because it was so unashamedly ugly. But when Optimus Prime shows up and the comedy stops and it's all about honor and duty and courage and freedom and all that bullshit, this movie clunks to a halt. Michael Bay shouldn't be making these movies for the same reason that Marilyn Manson doesn't cut gospel records. |
