At the moment it consists of the dozen films suggested here, but please do continue to add your choices. One film per customer, please!
As you add them, I'll incorporate them into the accolade. I hope you all have fun working through the films that other FWFRers hate!
I can't thank you enough for your help ... it would literally be nothing without you!
Its kind of weird that there are some pretty respectable films on that list. Many of them are Oscar winners! |

Yep, that's because some picked movies that are truly dreadful, others picked movies that they found very disappointing, and others picked movies they hate because they're popular. There's a big difference. Joe summed it up nicely here.
The one I added is simply bad. I can't imagine how anyone could like it, and don't believe anyone actually did like it. |

Well, yes, I agree what you and Joe B were saying on that other thread about the use of the term of 'overrated' and the personal element that comes into 'rating films'. My understanding was that BB was offering us the opportunity to blow a rasperberry at a film we didn't like - our own personal 'worst film ever'.
I truly hated the English Patient. As I have posted elsewhere, I tried many many times to watch it, and couldn't get through it. The book is beautiful, and the adaptation no doubt deserved the Oscars. But I don't like Fiennes and I didn't get into the emotions or the pace of the film - the cinematography, direction, editing, costume design didn't make up for that. So, it's not the 'worst film ever' in the big scheme of things - but it's one film that has driven me nutty. This is not 'sour grapes' or jealousy or anything else. I just didn't like it. So (with sound of raspberry)

I have a few films that I think that are the worst ever. But they are grouped into catagories. Tastes, genre, how boring they are, campy, popularity. I cant single out just one catagory. So I tried to find one movie that fit every catagory. I mean a movie could be boring, but not popular. A movie could also not meet my own tastes but it could be very funny. So anyways, I have norrowed it down to a movie that I think is the worst. My nomination is for:
Sliding Doors |

Thanks, TPa ... I'll wait a bit to see if there are some more and will definitely add yours to the list!!

Oooh, you stole mine! And I see Titanic is already there.
Can I add King Kong (1976)?
(Since I might get in trouble if I put in Gladiator.)

There are so many movies that are just plain bad, but for one to be hated beyond all reason, it has to be one that either did well at the box office or was well recived critically - and that is still utterly loathed.
I therefore nominate Titanic.
But I see that's already in. So, Episode I? Judge Dredd? The Patriot? Batman and Robin?
Nope, it has to be Independance Day. God I hate this fatuous, over-blown, gung ho, there's-only-one-nation-on-God's-Earth-worth-anything, insult to the intelligence, pile of ordure. Just watching this atrocity makes me anti-American with a vehemence normally reserved for the French.
Please note this last sentence was included for humourous effect only and implies no actual prejudice against either citizens of the United States Of America, or the garlic-eating surrender-monkeys on the other side of the channel.

Reality Bites. A truly horrible film, one that worked very hard to be of-the-moment at one of the worst times in pop-culture history. |

Surely among huge piles of dross, Titanic has to be up there (down there?) with the worst of them. How it ever won all those Oscars I shall never know (or care). And to cap it all, they had Celine Dion wailing her heart out at the end.
Summary: A huge pile of utter cack.
YECH!!!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I nominate "Pearl Harbor!" |

Oh choices choices. I rate "The English Patient" very highly and it saddens me a little to hear that people hate it that much, but each to their own I suppose. It makes me feel better that I can nominate "Armageddon" into the shit list, as the film that's probably as bad as "Independence Day". "Dreamcatcher" came very close, but smug old Bruce saving the world pips it for me. The mere mention of that film makes me gag. |
