There is nothing, in the book or in the film of 2010, to suggest that the monoliths "carry stars." And Bowman is definitely not a fetus in either of them.

Well, the line's definitely repeated in 2010, but I'll give you this: I don't know what the hell Bowman is by now.

Yeah, you're right. The line is repeated.

But Bowman appears all over the place in that film, including on a tv screen his erstwhile wife is watching, so the line is not literal (it was not meant to be in either the book or the script).

Also, the monoliths are channels (they work as both literal and metaphorical gateways); they cause Jupiter to transform into a mini-star, but they don't ferry stars to and fro.

Featuring an arcane self-tribute.

Hints:
In The Last Picture Show, Sam the Lion owns the theater, which is named ...

My review for The Scarlet Empress resulted from putting my birthday (11/5/83) into the film id and seeing what came up. I also worked my name into the review.

Here are five one-voters that have never been in the FYC.
They're good. They deserve more votes. Can you help?

Check out these late entries.

You'll have to know about iced tea with tapioca pearls to get my Star Wars V pun.
