I wish others would jump in here. It seems pushy if we don't have at least ten people giving it a shot first.

Yeah, come on Whipper! How come you feel it would be begging in this thread, but it's perfectly all right for you to don your gangsta pimp suit at every other opportunity
I'd do another, but it's only 4 months old ... too small to swim in the big pool -- awwwwwwwww!

Every other opportunity??
I didn't realise I was missing out on half the opportunities available.
I'll redouble my efforts from now on.

Okay. I'll play along. I've been bashful about participating in this since I've been a contributor for less than five months -- so, my oldest non-accepted review is from January 3rd -- not nearly as forsaken as most of yours.
Anyway, it's for the film AMERICAN GOTHIC, a schlock horror film using Grant Wood's classic painting as a theme for its nonsense. It even corrupts Wood's painting for its poster. My review: "Grant Wood not approve." |

Spoiler for Europa, Europa.
Here is a spoiler review and explanation for a movie I haven't seen but was forced to watch an extensive review of before i knew what was happening.
Young jewish boy pretends to be german to avoid Nazi Nasty end.
At a few stages in his plight he is not able to take a leak in public as it would show off his circumcised penis, but at the end of the war when he is reuinted with his thought to be dead brother they both take a piss that signifys their freedom.

I'm a believer! It works. "American Gothic" added, as well as a couple of other older ones. |

I've got two from last November when the mass backlog was shifted. If we end up being allowed more than one I'll go with the second one too, but I'd like to put forward the following if I may...
Film: The Thin Red Line Review: The Art-house of War.
Explanation: Probably not needed, but Terrence Malick's war movie is a gentle, poetic, rambling, visually stunning work better suited to the art-house cinema than the multiplex. And with the obligatory second reference, which I always aim for, "The Art of War" is the classic text by Sun Tzu.
As a side note - the "arty-ness" was actually the reason I hated it when I saw it the first time on the big screen, but as a older, more discerning viewer now I've totally changed my opinion on this film. I was prompted to rewatch it after loving "The New World" and realised how much I'd changed as a film goer. Quite an interesting sensation having a significant shift in perspective. |

Nicely done, Demonic. I agree with both sentiments above. I can't say I ever "hated" it but the amount of star power distracting. For some reason, using George Clooney at the end was the last straw for me. At the time, Clooney was "overexposed" as they say. I'll throw a vote your way. |

Very kind Sludge, thank you. Clooney did seem unnecessary on a first view I agree, but I only found out later that his performance was heavily cut down in the editing room, among with many other A-list actors who didn't even get into the final cut - (quick IMDB check reveals Gary Oldman, Bill Pullman, Mickey Rourke, Viggo Mortensen and Billy Bob Thornton among them). I'd love to see a full length version now, but I doubt that will ever see the light of day.
Thanks again to the MERPy angel watching over this thread, and to those who've thrown my newborn some votes. |
