I feel no guilt at all about loving these films and once I find the desert island thread "Dumbo" is in there. It's a film I can watch again and again and still get misty-eyed over ( That's guytalk for cry like a baby )

I cried during Lilo and Stitch.

It's a long story, but somehow the little blue alien really touched my heart.

a nearby college is having a guilty pleasures-themed spring film series. here are the offerings:

Conan the Barbarian
Blues Brothers
First Blood
Red Dawn
The Chosen
The Tin Drum

i'm not terribly fond of any of those, but i had a roommate who turned into a rabid patriot whenever he watched Red Dawn.

We saw Blues Brothers here a few years back, as part of a film series, and they had John Landis on hand to introduce the movie and take questions. Very entertaining (even if most of the questions were about making the "Thriller" video)

My first offering is such a guilty pleasure I suspect I'll lose any street cred I may have had:

The Sound of Music

It's true. I haven't watched it for a while but saw it several times in the cinema when it first came out.

I also find films directed by Jess Franco oddly compelling.

Is that enough? Can I go back to reading other people's posts now?

I'm just watching Taxi 3 , which I suppose falls into this category. A little surprised to see that Sylvester Stallone speaks perfect French

Hey now. If it was good enough for the Holness Army in The Postman, it's good enough for us!!

This did spark my memory about some other films I find guilty pleasures. A couple were on TBS tonight. Real film guilty pleasures for me are the ones I'll choose every time they are on, or I own and will pop in when nothing else appeals to me.

1) The Replacements - Yeah, I know. Keanu: "Whoa!! I know football!" But there are some scenes I just laugh with, such as the Orlando Jones led version of "I Will Survive" when the team is in jail after a bar brawl. And the Fat Man Post-Touchdown Dance. And Rhys Ifans is just a hoot. And somehow it ends up being a feel good movie without being too cliched (except for that "Pain heals, chicks dig scars, glory lasts forever," but I can forgive that).

2) Mars Attacks!! - Just funny, ack ackack.

3) Galaxy Quest - Terrific Star Trek parody. I've been to one or two Star Trek conventions and some of the fans are really like that. Extra points for Alan Rickman, by Grabthar's Hammer!

4) Men in Black - So sue me. It's got Shalhoub. I love Shalhoub. And if you don't like Shalhoub, there's only one word for you. D'Onofrio. He's so funny in this. And Will Smith's theme song taught me how to dance to hip hop.

5) Little Nicky - I tend to like Adam Sandler films primarily from the 90s - Big Daddy, Billy Madison, The Waterboy. But Little Nicky is my favorite. And again, Rhys Ifans.

6) Armageddon - It has Steve Buscemi. Otherwise, nolo contendre.

7) Chicago - I loved it. I can sit and do other work and sing along. Yeah, I know the words.

8) Dogma - I confessed to this before, but now this has turned into my 10 Guilty Pleasures List.

9) Keeping the Faith - I thought this was a great romantic comedy. Norton's first directorial effort. Jenna Elfman was lit in such a way she seemed to glow. And it was a tongue in cheek funny look at religion.

10) Space Cowboys - Good director, great cast. Donald Sutherland was hilarious. Plus there's that scene with old guy's butts.

Okay, so there you have it. My 10 Guilty Pleasures.

Geez, I just realized what my guilty pleasures reveal about me. That first moon landing must have really effected me.

50% of them are space or sci-fi related
70% of them involve threats to the continued existence of the planet
70% of them are comedies

And apparently my favorite guilty pleasure actors are Steve Buscemi, Rhys Ifans, Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones and... Linda Fiorentino?!?

A lot of critics and audiences panned this film, it didn't do well at the box office, and I have philosophical problems with the way it deals with how the God judges people who commit suicide. To be sure, it is not a perfect film, but then again, how many films are?

It made me cry. I recently bought a copy and plan on watching it.
I thought it was a beautiful film.

If you bought the same DVD I got, check out the amazingly awful alternate ending.

I didn't cry. I do clearly remember sobbing. It was visually beautiful, Robin Williams broke my heart. It was one of the best roles I've seen him in. I also rather liked Bicentennial Man. Both of these films deal with whistful yearning and a search for completeness in such a tender way that I was amazed by him.

Okay, I'm with you on these guilty pleasures, Livie. I should also admit to Pride & Prejudice (with Colin Firth), which means I should also admit to enjoying almost anything with Colin Firth - even when he's at his most broody.

And the one film that can make me cry like there's no tomorrow is Who Will Love My Children.

Did we watch the same film?

I had to take a shower afterwards to wash the saccharine off. A truly horrible viewing experience.
